Subject : Is this ok?
Hey girls,
Summer turned 1 last week. And shes become really independant.
Wats worrying me is that she doesnt want her bedtime bottle anymore. She screams if you try giving it to her. So l give her a little bit more dinner at 6ish. She sleeps thru.
She has a little bit of milk in her bottle in the mornig and about 5-6oz with her weetabix or ready brek.
Is this ok?
She eats food really well. Has plenty of cheese, yogs etc.

the independent stage is a mixed blessing (to me at least) - its nice to see them grow up and want to do things themselves but at the same time you want them to be babies and be in control so you know they are getting what they need... Isla is an independent eater and there are meals i swear she gets 2 bites in - she refuses to let us feed her...
From what you say she is eating, she is probably getting enough dairy products. Dont' forget that many fruits also have calcium in them.
Something I heard this past week - people both adults and kids, are not getting enough vitamin D and should be taking a supplement. We dont' get enough sun and the suncreams used block vitamin D... Babies probably get more than adults since they tend to drink more milk which is very high in vitamin D.
I haven't tried a supplement for either myself or LO but I'm going to ask her pedi next time I'm there if I should give her one.
Something else to worry about, isnt' that great?

Lily (1 on Tuesday!) is still having 2 bottles a day- (just) one in the morning and one before bed. She is starting to have less and less though and now doesn't finish either of her 6oz bottles. I think she would happily drop them if I let her but will keep them going a little longer as we have just moved on to cows milk. I think by the time they are 1 they should be getting most nutrients from the food so I wouldn't worry too much.
If you did still want her to have the milk have you tried offering her the milk in a sippy cup rather than a bottle as maybe more of a drink perhaps it is the bottle she has gone off not the milk? xx

Hi girls,
Thanks for your replys.
She actually likes being fed, and she likes finger foods. So am ok on that side of things. I would try the cup but shes quite tired by bedtime and shes been going to bed about 7.30 and has her dinner about 6. l feel mayb shes not hungry enuf to want milk hr and half after a good meal (hope lm making sense).
l try to get her to have as many things with milk in them, like rice pud, yogs, cheese etc.
Thanks.

she must be getting plenty love cos she's sleeping all night, believe me if she was hungry or thirsty she would let you know. I used to fight with Grace to have her bedtime milk and in the end i gave up cos she just wasnt interested,

Yeah bedtime was getting really upsetting for all of us. And then wen you put her to bed she wud cry and scream cos she was upset. Since weve stopped giving her the milk shes off to sleep within 5-10mins of being in bed.

Sorry forgot to say. Shes been on cows milk as a proper drink since about 11 and half months. She was 1 last week.
Wen l first gave her the cows milk she really liked it. l thought she prefered it to formula.

My Ruby is 1 in 3 weeks hun and since 9 months has had no milk whatsoever!
She stopped breastfeeding through her own choice and has refused any sort of milk in any sort of beaker/cup/bottle since!
I worried like mad but she is fine.
Saw the HV yesterday and her weight is fine and her progress is great (been walking for a month now!).
So, don't worry at all.
She is obviously perfectly happt as she is sleeping through and as she is having calcium in yoghurts, cheese, butter etc, she is fine!

I wouldn't worry. Gabe's coming up to 14 months and he stopped all milk 2 weeks ago, morning and bedtime. It was my choice not his. I was fed up of him only drinking 2-3oz of each bottle and the rest going down the sink lol (as he has warmed milk and you can't put it bk in fridge once its been warmed). So we just stopped giving him milk or bottles cold turkey, and I honestly don't think he's even noticed. He is independent too but doesn't like being fed either and doesn't like cheese sticks or anything dairy apart from yogurts of course so he has 1 or 2 yogurts a day and thats it really, sometimes he has a few spoons of cereal but more often than not he refuses it and has cereal as a finger food. I am not too worried but am going to check his weight with HV next week.
