Subject : Fingers / Ankles Swelling???

Hello ladies

For the past few weeks my engagment and wedding rings have been getting tighter and tigther (always take then off when I have a shower) and each day it's been getting harder, to the point that I nearly couldn't remove them and got a bit panicky!! I haven't been able to get them back on since Sunday, and have an awful "ring dent" on my finger!

And my ankles have been swelling, today being the worst. My toes are like little fat sausages, and my ankles now resemable elephant legs! They calm down a bit in the evening if I remain on the sofa, then after going to bed, I wake up in the morning and they're back to normal, and the cycle starts again!!!

I'm putting it down to the heat....anyone else experincing this? :\?
Seeing the midwife on Monday for my 16 week appointment so will mention it then!

Hi,

I also noticed this last night, after going for a walk my hands and feet swelled up really badly! Like you I'm just putting it down to the heat as after a while they went down!

Will be interesting to hear what the Midwife says.

Don't think I'll be going for many walks in this heat again.

Im the same although I have permanent cankles now!

As soon as I was about 8 weeks my friend commented that my ankles were swollen and they never seem to change shape so I think I might have oedema :(

Hope yours is just heat tho!!!

I live in aberdeen so I dont have that excuse haha xx

Wearing my real wedding ring is a distant memory. ive bought a cheapy from argos as didnt like not wearing a wedding ring, tho cant wait to be able to wear mine again.

Ok so not practical in the heat but support stockings really are the way forward, swelling of ankles etc is common in pg even when its not hot and i found dvt stockings really helped and they prevent varicose veins.

do mention it to the m/w tho as it can be a sign of pre eclampsia, tho much more likely to be the heat.

Hey ladies - I had this with my feet and ankles on Tuesday. By the morning they were back to normal, and then they did the same yesterday. I saw the midwife yesterday and she said it's perfectly normal, especially considering we're pregnant and it's so hot! The only time you need to see aomeone about it is if you have headaches at the same time, or if the swelling hasn't gone down in the morning (she said that it's unlikely to go completely back to normal as during pregnancy "everything swells"! lol).

Hope that helps some of you a bit?

Yeah definately got swollen fingers and ankles, as We went shopping the other day and I tried a few pairs of sandals on that I couldn't get my foot into! It's been so hot over the last few days so that doesn't help either. x

lol at kebab legs hahaha. I had odema (swelling of the ankles) with my last baby and it never went down until gave birth. Yes could be sign of pre-eclampsia so get checked out but saying that it has been very hot. xjx

my fingures have gone chubby i'm hopeing just the heat at this stage but now taking wedding/engage ring off when get home till morning but put on when go out - never done that before but getting uncomfy!

i reckon it's def the heat - but with my last preg i had swelling (was further on) and slight protein in wee and that was it signed off work, monitored closely the mw's will take no risks which is good thing i think!!!

Definately think it is the heat causing my swelling, as today has been warm but not hot with a lovely breeze and my ankles have remained the same, normal size - yay!!

Got 16 week appointment with midwife tomorrow so will check with her anyway to be on the safe side.

Hurray to cooler weather, I may just sleep tonight now.....

Hi

Had my midwife appointment yesterday and mentioned it to her, but before I could finish the sentance she said "it's just the heat".

I did mention the link to pre-eclamsia but she said we were WAY to earlier in the pregnancy to have that!

Also, hadven't swollen Sunday, Monday or Today so am 100% reassured it was the heat.

Dont worry my feet have looked like elephants feet the last week with this heat!! It definately can't be pre eclampsia as iv got low blood pressure...hopefully all our swollen hands and feet will shrink down to normal size now the weather is naff again! xx
