Subject : Doesn't look like it's going to happen for us any time soon

We had our first Gyn appt today (thanks for all the good luck messages btw). I was asked lots of questions about cycles and the Dr confirmed that I ov from my 21 day blood results. He said the next step was for me to have my HSG. He has put me on the list but says that this could take 2-3 months. I go on holiday on CD9 next month so that automatically puts me straight to Aug and that's assuming they can fit me in). Anyway, that was me.

Then he turns tp DH and gets his SA results out the file. Now, we were given the results weeks ago after the test and he was told on the phone they were 'normal' and count was 22mil. No morphology or motility at that point which concerned me. Anyway Dr today had those and they are shite! Morphology is 20% as opposed to the 45-50% it should be as a min. BUT this wasn't what he was most concerned about. Motility is only 7% and needs to be at least 15%. DH has to have another SA and if it's a similar result the Dr said that 'we have to assume conception will not occurr naturally' and that we will be referred for IVF.

I am pretty stunned to be honest. Part of me wanted them to find something so that we can go 'that makes sense' and get cracking on treatment but part of me would be hoping it just wasn't our time yet. He has told us not to bother with the CBFM so that's going. The good thing is I am in the 2ww and will not be obsessing. Instead of thinking it might be our month I know it won't be. Same goes for next month, and the month after that...

I was also surprised he mentioned IVF in the initial consultation but I think motility is one of the few things there is simply no treatment for. Sorry for such a long post - thanks for getting this far. I am having a cold beer now to try and relax - I figure there's no point going all out on the fertility front if the little buggers simply aren't going anywhere Sad

I'm really sorry to hear that KayeCee, I can only imagine what it must be like to be told that. Frown At least you know it's not the end as there are other routes to try. I really do hope that it all works out for you and OH.

KayeCee, I'm so sorry to hear about your OH's results, you must just be in shock at the moment. At least they have found something and are willing to treat it if it comes to that. Not sure what else to say but enjoy the beer and relax, lots of hugs, xxx

Gosh Kayecee, I really don't know what to say. I think you have today heard the news that all of us fear hearing so I'm not surprised you feel so sad.

It's easier said than done, I know, but there are positives to come out of this and as soon as you are ready you need to try to focus on those. First of all, you made the step of going for the appointment, which is fantastic because now you know what the problem is and you wont have that feeling of wondering month after month why nothing is happening. At least now you have some answers (although not the ones you want...) so it must feel like a little weight has been lifted.

Also, the docs already sound positive in being able to help you, which is great news. The sooner you get cracking with it the better. Get hubby to do his second SA soon so there is no hanging around,

I suspect hubby is also feeling sad so lots of TLC for the both of you tonight I hope. I've no doubt that together you will stay strong and focus on that all important BFP.

Above all, enjoy your holiday, there's a lot to be said for relaxation. x

oh Kayecee I know that wasn't the news you were hoping for.
The good thing is, they have identified what may be causing a problem and they should get you on the road to intervention very quickly from now.

I really hope you get the help you need quickly and that a BFP is not too far away for you
Huge hug

Thanks NYY, Angela and Angelfish. Angelfish you managed to put a very positive spin on my situation and have made me feel better so thank you. I know it's better to have a problem and know about it so things can be done. And you're right they are doing all they can to help us. Knowledge is power, as they say. Thank you - you are all lovely xxx

Kayecee I agree with Angelfish you need to focus on the positives!! At least your doctor seems to want to get things going asap. Like debbiemc said I have heard of people in the same situation who go and surprise themselves with a natural BFP to prove everybody wrong!!

Oh honey I'm sorry that it was poor. I'm pretty sure though that moonbeam's issue was her oh sperm-hope I'm not wrong- and shes just got her bfp so it can happen.
I have everything crossed that you will get your bfp soon either with or without intervention.

Oh KayeCee, my heart sank when I saw the title of this thread..I'm so sorry it wasn't better news for you.

The good thing is that you finally have an answer to why it hasn't happened for you yet. And you are now on the road to getting this sorted out.

When is your hubbys next SA test?
And what is the HSG test for? (sorry, I'm not sure what that means).

I'm useless at knowing what to say, but you know where I am if you want to rant or let off steam or even talk about nonsense to take your mind off it.

Big hugs xxxxx

Sorry to hear it wasn't good news. I hope it soon feels better to know than not know. It's awful they didn't give you more accurate results on the phone.

I hope this is the first big step to getting your BFP. People always say it only takes one good sperm and there is truth in that, so even if you are ditching CBFM don't give up completely each month.

God, just read this back I'm really not helping at all. Wish there was something I could add to what everyone else has said.

Hope you start to feel better soon and thinking of you.

Thanks everyone. I looked in my Zita West book this am and she says sperm motility should be 50% - maybe I misheard the doc (thought he said 15). We are only on 7% so waaaaaay off if that's the case.

Posy the HSG is where they put dye through my tubes to check for blockages. He doesn't think there's a problem necessarily - it just sounds pretty routine. I have to wait maybe 2-3 months for that so I guess there is no rush with DH's SA. As soon as I have a date for the HSG we can book our follow up appt.

DH has taken it pretty badly and things are just generally crap at the moment :-(

Sorry to hear that KayeCee. I think it must be hard for men to receive news like that as they don't talk about things like we do. I'm sure he must feel an enormous amount of pressure.

I hope the HSG goes well and doesnt reveal anything worrying, I'm sure it will be fine. It's good to hear they are keen to move forward with checks and even treatment. I hope they dont leave you waiting too long for anything.

I bet you can't wait for your holiday now!

Hope you feel better soon and things pick up. I'm willing a BFP on you desperately.

Hi Kayecee,

Im sorry that you didnt get better news but I agree with the other girls about trying to take a positive look & like you say knowledge is power.

There is so much they can do these days for low sperm count or low motility (my friends have just had ivf for this problem so have learnt alot recently!) whilst we all want a bfp to come naturally you will get the help you'll need & that all important bfp will be yours & when you get it, it will be that little more special for you both.

Lots of love & hugs xxx
