Subject : I need to choose a wedding song!

I never though this would be so hard!! OH doesn't really mind what our first dance song will be, he's more panicked about dancing in front of people. Hates to make a show of himself whereas I don't mind! I am a major Take That fan and think Greatest Day is such a lovely song, the words are wedding perfect. OH is not a fan, he calles them Take Tw#t! Sacrilege I tell you!
Anyway, we both like You and Me Song by the Wannadies and I also love Beyond the Sea by Bobby Darrin (I think) cos OH was in the navy.

Decisions decisions, can you girls help me out?

OMG! just realised its july, weddings next month!!!

Sacrilege indeed - I'm a HUGE Take Thatter! Love your sugestions! We had an old Rat Pack claSsic - The way you look tonight & it went down a storm. Everyone was singing along! We had a Rat Pack band so we had them sing it live.

Are you having a band? If so, maybe have a look at the songs they do and pick one that means something to you - either the words or a memory.

If you're having a DJ - it's even harder as you have so much choice. The weddings I've been to recently, these were the 1st dances:
Elton John - The way you look tonight
David Grey - This Year's Love
Jack Johnson - Better Together
GreenDay - Good Riddance (time of your life)
Elvis Costello - She

I quite fancied TT's Rule the world & we've got it on our DVD, makes me smile each time I hear it!

Hope you have a fabulous day - I'm soooo jealous - I want to do it again!

Thanks shooting star and mrs A,

I see I have a bit of convincing to do!
We aren't having a band, just a DJ. I think the bobby darrin song would make people laugh. Greatest day might work at the end? Whenever OH is in the car i'll start playing the song on repeat to subliminally convince him!
I also love She. This is so hard!!

Any more suggestions girls?

We had 'Better Together' by Jack Johnson - hubby first heard it when he was away on exercise with the army and it's bn our song ever since!

But then some locals sang 'It had to be you' to us in the street, and now thats one of my favourite's too!! Oh and 'That's Amore' because it reminds me of Italy (where we got married)!!

Another favourite of mine, which i would have had but i know someone else who used it, is 'Stay with you' by John Legend!! xx

Snowcake,

I got married in May and we had this dilema until literally the last minute! My hubby just isn't a balard fan and we couldn't decide. Everything we liked seemed to have a dodgy meaning- ie. we both liked 'Always' by Bon Jovi but it isn't exactly a happy love song lyrics wise- think it's about affairs!

Then on the morning of the wedding my hubby left me a really lovely card and he had put an ipod in the envelope and told me to play it...he'd put 'Greatest Day' on it!! So, when we got to the reception it just felt right to have that as our first dance...so that's what we had and now it makes me cry everytime I hear it. He hates Take That too but now admitts that the lyrics are pretty fitting.

The You and Me song is a great choice- loving Beyond the Sea though, it's a beautiful song and with a special meaning...failing that you could just wait till your man and wife like I did and spring it on him when he's all happy and had some bubbly!!Wink

Good luck hun, so jealous- my wedding day was best ever- you are going to have a wonderful day!!

xxxx

Oh I share your pain as we're struggling too... we loved Alexandra Burkes version of You Are So Beautiful (originally Joe Cocker) but havent found any version that quite compares. we're checking with the band whether they would sing our first dance just in case...

failing that I'm loving etta james at last or harry conick jr it had to be you, but dont think H2B is so keen. Not having 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You' - Andy Williams as thats an ex's our song LOL!

heres a link i found

We had Jack Johnson Better Together and it worked really well followed by Dancing in the Moonlight by Toploader which got everyone up and joining in with us.

It is a hard decision to make - good luck - wish I could have my wedding day all over again.

Bugger!
I just wrote a massive reply but then BE logged me out and my essay of a message got eaten. grrr.

TT fans put 4music on now Sky channel 360, all TT songs, just been never forget, now how deep is your love. Love them all!!!

Right back to the point. Thank you for all your replies, its great to hear which songs you had.
Is 'cant take my eyes off you' the one Heath Ledger sang on 10 things I hate abt you? I quite fell for him in that film. Also Harry Connick Jr It had to be you is fab, but I think we would have to go for Beyong the Sea if we were having a rat pack kinda song cos of the personal meaning for us.

Ive been on youtube listening to all the tunes, such great suggestions, hadn't thought of Jack johnson but its alo brill.
I would love it if OH surprised me with 'greatest day', that sounded soooo sweet. I even put my hand to my chest and had a little sigh when I read that one!

OMG, i love Take That, Greatest Day...me and OH will prob have that as ours...a definate for the perfect wedding song!!

I love Eva Cassidy, 'Songbird' tho...heard it on Love Actually and have wanted it ever since!

James Morrision, the 'you make it real' one is very special to me and OH from around the time of the mc's but i don't think we could have it as a wedding song cuz we'd cry and the association is a bit too sad!!! Surprised

I'm having a TT fest tonight here on my own, its great!!
If your OH will go for Greatest Day then have it. I wouldn't choose the James Morrison one for your wedding, weddings are happy times and you need a happy song to go with it.
Eva Cassidy had an amazing voice, its a really romantic song and everyone will be choked up, but for good reasons.
I'm no further forward!
