Hi DB
This sounds different to what happened to me, but I had a PPH which is a heavy bleed just after my DS was delivered. The mw looked pale and went straight to sound the alarm, and then I had about 8 consultants around me in a space of 2 minutes!!! I was then rushed off to theatre to stop the blood flow, and also I had to have 3 blood transfusions. I did speak to my consultant about this 3 weeks ago and have been told it may happen again!!! But they will be activily managing my 3rd stage of delivery this time - what ever that means need to ask my mw!
I would ask your consultant if I was you, as they will have your notes from last time, and they will be able to tell you exactly what happened.

Hi, i to had a PPH which is obviously different to what happened to you, it was after my second lo was born (4 half months old now). I had just had Sophie put on me for skin to skin contact and i felt the midwife tug at the cord (once it had been cut) and then i felt it snap and saw a lot of blood. She then grabbed it and clamped it to try and stop it, she then asked someone to get a doctor quick and the next thing i knew i had loads of people around me and the very nice lady doctor told my mil to take the baby off me. The cord snapped again and i was then rushed to thearter to have the placenta removed. I had 2 blood transfusions afterwards.
I didn't understand what was going on as i wasn't quite with it, i asked the doctor afterwards what had happened and she explained to us that it was PPH and the chances of it happening again are very high if we have anymore kids. I'm glad i asked what happened as i have had trouble getting over this emotionally which lead to pnd-i think if i didn't know about it it would have been worse.
Ask your consultant what happened to help you understand what went on, it helps if your finding that you keep thinking about it.

I totally agree with vikki on that 1 - do ask your consultant what happened last time, as it really affected me emotionally too and that is why my DS will be turning 5 when my LO arrives. I was never told what had happened to me, I was very ill in the hospital, in for 4 days after having my DS and this was in Dec so staff/ docs etc not as helpful in giving information as maybe other times of the year.
When I said never again I meant it, I am worried about the birth already and I am only 16+3, but I know they will be keeping a close eye on me so that makes it easier.

I had PPH after having my son as the placenta wouldn't detach, despite being left for 45 minutes after the injection it still hadn't come away! The 3rd stage that they talk about is the delivery of the placenta. Unfortunately during all of this I was bleeding heavily and then had to have the placenta manually removed by the Dr, not pleasant. I had 3 units of blood transfused but luckily my son and I were fine. Hopefully with the next one they will be prepared for it in case it happens again.

hi hun, i bled whilst in labour, its the only reason i went o the hospital when i did as i wasnt even sure i was in labour! i started bleeding heavily at 8.30pm and i was at the hospital at 9.20 and she was born at 10.17! all very quick but i had no mention of a section and i had her myself. not sure why that happened but the midwifes never seemed worried in the least!. xxx
