Subject : Should she be drinking more?

My lo is 8 1/2 weeks old. She used to take 5-6oz every 4 hours, but lately has been taking 3-4oz every 2 1/2 hours and I cannot get her to take anymore! It usually takes her 30mins to take this amount (used to take 20 on the larger amount!) She will usually then want the rest an hour or so later!

Should I continue with her demands or is there something I can do to get her to take more the 1st time! Could it be the teats? I am using number 1 on the TT bottles.

Thanks girls :)

could be the teats, you could try the variflow or the next size if she takes 30mins to take 4oz! x

Hi,
Since 9 weeks old my little girl has slept better (including in the day) and has taken less milk 4 x 6floz bottles daily usually. She used to have 5 but it has reduced so it could be that your little one doesn't need as much milk as she used to?
However the snacking she is doing would suggest she may need it but has just fallen into an annoying pattern. Could you try her with cooled boiled water after she has fed in order to try and delay her milk feed for 4 hours?
Also my little one has had TT medium flow teats on the suggestion of the Health Visitor since she was about 6 weeks so I wouldn't hesitate to swop them if I was you as this meant less wind and quicker feeding.
Hope that helps.

Hi hun
I'd also have a go at trying the next size teats... this is what we did with Toby and it seems to be working for him... but today my sister fed him and thinks the TT bottles aren't good for him and are giving him too much wind - poor T having real wind problems this last week.
So we're gonna have a go with avent bottles now!!!
babies huh!!

Thanks girls. bumblebee20 - she does have boiled water in between - but if she is hungry she will scream until she gets her milk!

I have changed over to size 2 teats and it is working! Yay!! She is now taking 5-6oz's again and draining the bottle in 15 minutes! She was obviously getting bored lol :) I am lucky as Ella has never really been very windy! I did use some avent bottles for a while, but she struggled with the teats and had more wind!

I thought even the normal TT ones has the valve in to reduce the wind? You can see the air bubbles coming back into the bottle when they feed instead of into them!
