Subject : PUPPP
Please,please,please can someone help.
Since last weekend I have been developing spots on the thighs and bump. They have spread all over my body. They are sssoooooooooooooo itchy it is crazy.
I was sent to the hospital to rule out the kidneys, then saw a doctor who put put me under heat rash! Trust me it is not heat rash.
After doing mu own investigation it is PUPPP, does anyone know what will relief this. I am not sleeping, close to tears and everyone just looks at me like, what the hell is that.
Would love to hear from you

hiya
i too had developing spots on my bump at 25 weeks and was like you sent to hospital and saw the crappiest doctor ever to walk this planet who concluded i had heat rash and gave me penicillin! After him then phoning TWO doctor friends he said they were fine to take whilst pregnant but obviously i had my doubts the moment he said "oh im not sure" when i asked the question. ( I clearly looked pregnant at 25 weeks)Anyway after my own investigation i concluded it was PUPPP. however, the itching got sooo bad and calomine lotion didnt work so i hastily went back to my own doctor who said i had a fungal infection where my skin was getting so hot! She threw the penicillin away (i didnt take any but showed her coz they were in my records) and she gave me a cream called "trimovate" which has worked wonders and the itching and spots disappeared within ten days! she also advised me to stop using the Palmers stuff i was using and gave me a huge tub of Epaderm which is the best stuff ever!!!
So my advise is to either get some calomine lotion or cream to see if that helps or go back to your own doctor not the hospital one and enquire about fungal infections.
PUPPP also tends to start in the top of a stretch mark? Is this what yours is like? Touch wood im very lucky to not have any yet which is why i then equired about it being something else
Sorry about long post but hope it helps and hope you get some relief!
take care

Hi,
Thank you for your posting. It got so bad this afternoon, the midwife from the hospital told me to go straight up. They were great, finally confirmed it is PUPPP. Thank heavens, only three doctors later. They have suggested a couple of things and cream. There is an options for steriods but that really is a last resort, as it can make the baby smaller. I have six weeks to go so will have this until baby arrives and then it usually takes a week to clear after that. I would not wish this on any one.

I suffered this with both pregnancies, which is rare. it usually occurs in one pregnancy only, then not again....
it is horrendous - i had it for bout 9-10 weeks with my first then thankfully only 3 weeks with my second (because she came early. I was so itchy and nothing worked. I had about 7 different creams prescribed by the gp and none of them did anything. The only thing that gave me any relief was a cold shower, but that only worked for an hour or so.
Heat will irritate the rash and make it worse so try to stay cool, drink plenty of fluids to keep your temp down. You could also take some paracetamol to try and keep your temp down and ease some of the discomfort.
try some steroid creams as they might work if its only early on.. could you have an ice pack to hand for the really itchy times as it should cool the skin down and stop some of the itching...?
it is horrendous and i really feel for you - i scratched so much that i drew blood t times because i had no control over it.
I really hope you dont suffer badly with it but if you need someone to 'grr' about it with then feel free to email/fao me. I can completely sympathise.

hi hun, i had this with my little girl and i got it at 34 weeks, its very unusual for you to get it before 32 weeks. i got so bad i was bleeding etc and was up showering 6-8 times a night as the warm water seems to ease it and as the itching was worse at night this was when i needed the relief. i ended up on steriods and they were going to induce me at 36 weeks but held out as the steriods had slowed down the growth of my baby and thankfully she came 2 weeks early at 38 weeks and was only 5lb 13 ozs. i also was perscribed piriton for the itch and a steriod cream for my bump. it was so bad it took me 4 weeks after delivery for it to go away. I hope you get some relief but the only cream that will help will need to be perscribed by a dermatologist and your gynae doc should refer you, i would also take all puppps articles from google with you so they can read it as many wont have heard of it as its not that common. xxxxxxxx

I had blister type rash / spots during my pregnancy and was sent to our local Dermatologist who got all excited when he saw me! As my condition is so rare 1 in 100,000 and you can only develop it during pregnancy! I had a condition called "Pemphigoid Gestation" It was a so sore and itchy, they were reluctant to perscribe steriods due to a small risk to baby and said your just going to have to ride it out. Calomine lotion didnt work either or the cold showers, eek, I was constantly scratching. Anyway my symptons started at around 28weeks and lasted until 34 weeks it says lo can be born smaller weight and with the rash to. I will never know if it effected babys weight as my dd was born by ecs as I went onto develope PE and lo was born 37weeks at 4lb 12oz.
As diane says I thought I had PUPPP from my own initial internet research but it is uncommon to have this before 32weeks!
Anyway I have rambled on, hope it gets better soon!x

Thank you for your views. I can say my rash has improved so much. My partner looked on the net for woman who have suffered and come across a soap called Grandpa's pine tar soap. It is brill, I would totally recommend this.

Spooky.....
I had never heard of PUPP before today but I developed a similar rash on my bump over the weekend and so rang the midwife this morning because with 16 days to go im concious of everything at the moment and they asked me to go straight down to get it checked out. Mine is following the lines of my stretch marks with the odd spot and is very very itchy! Im actually up now at 11.10pm because im itching sooo much. Anyway I sign on here and you too have posted to say you have it!!
I have been told to use Calomine lotion to just ease the itching and hopefully that will help until my baby arrives which isnt too long (hopefully!).
