Subject : when to ditch the buggy?

Isaac is 2 1/2 and walks pretty much everywhere. Although if we went into town or something he ges very very tired and is also very clumsy and trips over quite alot. He has a buggy board but dosnt really like it. Do you think its ok for me to have him in a buggy still for long journeys?

I think its fine to keep the buggies for long journeys. I bought the mamas and papas 8in 1 travel system when shea was born, he's now 22months and still using the pushchair bit when we go into the city shopping or for long walks and he walks for short journeys or local shops etc.

The mamas and papas one i've got is supposed to be up to 3 years!!

hey, yes I do think a buggy is a good idea. My dd2 is now 3yrs old and I need the buggy on the long walk( 1 miles) to school most mornings. Its not that she cannot walk that far but she gets slower and slower and then get ratty and tired after......so its just as easy to take the buggy so she can have a ride when she needs too.
having said that she walked all the way there the other day and home until we got round the corner then she wilts and gets in the buggy about 2 mins from home...typical lol

I think you put him in a buggy until he doesn't need one, aren't they designed until 4 anyway? If a childs tired it makes sense to put them in the buggy while you carry on so I wouldn't worry about it at all

It's fine...my mum said I was out of the buggy altogether by 18months/2 as I loved to walk everywhere but my little sister hated walking. She had the buggy until age 4 and then she broke her leg & was in a wheelchair for about 6 weeks so it was aaages till she walked everywhere properly. Personally I would rather Gabe was out of a buggy by 3 but for long trips it is unavoidable probably up to 4.

If we're out and about locally I don't bother with the buggy for Lily (she was 2 in April) and she copes okay walking around town too, but for longer trips I don't see anything wrong with a buggy. Helps you get where you're going a lot faster too!

I'm just at a point where I'm sick to death of pushchairs as got a double and 2 singles! So wherever possible I put Evie in buggy and let Lily walk now.

It's just a personal thing but I don't like seeing older toddlers that are about 3 or 4 still in a buggy, makes me think they are just lazy! Though probably me being judgemental. (Please don't shout at me if you have an older toddler in a buggy!)

Jake has just turned 3 and I use the buggy everyday for the school run, it is over a mile and there is no way he'd be able to go there and back without the buggy. I don't use it for anything else now really but I would if we were going out for the whole day or something as I don't drive so there is usually a lot of walking involved
