Subject : Update on 1st docs appt

Hi ladies,

Had 1st fertlity appt today, gynae lovely asked lots of questions re: cycle etc and looked through results from tests which myself and OH have already had done. Said all normal.

Said each mth each couple only have 1/6 chance of conceiving as a maths teacher know these odds are really low! He said some couples hit the 6 straightaway and for others takes lot longer (don't we all know it ladies)

Has bked me in for HSG (just awaiting appt) but said if all ok will have to go back for chat but implied would prpbably send us away for another 6mths or so to keep trying. Is this normal?? Said sub-fertlity clinic would not see us until been ttc for 2years anyway and then said if got to that stage we would have to eriously consider if that was route we wanted to take, anyone know what he could mean by this? Of course we would want to pursue.

Did say that I need to be more confident that it will happen though and try not to let anxiety affect things which is easier said than done. Have gor v stressful job as teacher and OH made redundant 7mths ago so been a v bad year really.

How painful is the HSG? Can you return straight to work afterwards?

Thanks ladies and babydust to all of you

Love Em J xx

Hiya Em J,

Sorry I can't be very helpful but wanted to say sorry they couldn't find an answer for you not conceiving. Must be a bit frustrating for you both...

On a positve side you're both working!!! I guess the longterm route they're talking about is IVF

Your lives sound very stressful (my mum used to be a maths teacher) hope your OH finds work soon.

xxxx

Hi em,
Some people found the hsg horrible and others bearable. I didnt like it but it wasnt too bad. If you look at "my other topics" I wrote it all down in detail after I had mine, it may help you prepare and know a little what to expect. I read a few and it helped me to know what was going to happen. Hope all goes well for you.
As Mrs pootle says I would think he was talking about going down the IVF route.

Keep us posted honey xx

Hi Em J, glad you had a nice Dr at your clinic although it must be frustrating to know that everythin is OK and it is still not happening for you. I guess he's right, stress will have a big impact and, what with your job, and your DH losing his job, you are probably very stressed at the moment, even if you don't realise it! Have you considered looking at any complementary therapies, like reflexology, accupuncture, hypnotherapy; it might just be the ticket you both need.

Hope you get your BFP soon.

xx

I had to have a HSG, its wasnt very nice but its bearable (its for a good cause), i wouldnt go back to work straight afterwards, i couldnt, it took me a day to recover, i had quite a few bad stomach cramps afterwards.
Its good that all your other tests came back normal, that must be a relief. Hopefully you'll get some answers soon.
Good luck xxxx

Thanks for all your replies girls, I didn't feel too bad yesterday but feel terrible today! Only on cd 17 and feeling v emotional and 'pmtish'.

Just feel today like it's never going to happen!

A daft question but one my mum asked and I didn't know the answer, would I be prescribed clomid to stimulate more eggs if already o/v?

Thanks ladies xx

Hi Mrs glad all test results OK but sorry for you that you are sort of stuck in limbo at the moment. Re HSG didn;t have one but was supposed to get one so read up, wouldn't go back to work although chances are it'll come up when you are off, if you are like me there are only 3 weeks to the summer hols??

Re clomid I don't think they do prescribe that if you already OV as that is the same with me, OH has problems and I asked could I have clomid to 'increase' chances but he advised not really effective. I think they are talking about IVF too and prob just saying to think about it as it is financial, emotional, physically stressing and slightly more risky than natural pg (according to the wee booklet they gave me about IVF as it will more than likely be our route)

Big kisses to you for your sad day and hope you are feeling better too - BTW I teach numeracy!! LOl Small world, main subject is Business Studies but took on nuneracy for a few extra hours!

Hi Moonbeam,

Lovely to hear from you, our students finish in 3 weeks but I finish work on 23rd July for 5 weeks and like you counting down!!

Thanks re: Clomid, I didn't think so but was just wondering if anything else was left to test etc before venturing down the IVF route.

How are you doing at the mo?

Love Em J xx

I'm actually quite good at the mo sounds ridiculous but the fact that I know we have such a small chance of conceiving has taken a lot of pressure off me, dont get me wrong still made sure we b'd twice over oeak time on CBFM but really not expecting much so not worrying myself.

IVF is so daunting I would just love to fall pg before we had to go for it but have thought this about a lot of things - passing the 1 year trying mark, first appt at docs, then at hos, I always thought we would 'fall' before each of these events happened but I think we all did!!!

Have you anything nice planned for the weekend? I have cleaned my house done all my washing and am going to relax and eat all weekend and of course get some voldka in too!! LOL xxx

Hope you are doing OK

Hi chick I didn;t do too much I finished a night class 2 weeks ago so have a lot more time on my hands again and my son is getting a proper mum again so just did the park things etc with him, I am going with him to meet his new primary 1 teacher tomorrow so have been a bit emotional all weekend as he is leaving pre school and going to be a big boy!!!!!

I think the one thing I have learnt from lttc is to appreciate him more, not that I didn't but my heart breaks at not being able to have more kids as I wish and as terrible as it is I know I am liucky to have him, sometimes I feel like a bit of a fraud on here as I have him but I hope I never offend any one or annoy any one when I moan when I do have him? SOmething I think about a lot and I love you all so much and would never want to sound like a condescending cow or anything.

I hear ya re work its easier to blot it out!!! LOL Hope you have a good week at work chick xxxx
