Subject : What do you do?

Hi Ladies,

I'm at work at the mo but have been given some time to study for my training course next week - but my mind's boggled!! So in true addict fashion i turned to BE!!

Anyway, i got to wondering what everyone does for a living? I know we have a lot of teachers in our ranks, but there must be others?!

I work on a PFI project for the NHS, rebuilding a mental health hospital in the North East. It's a great job, no two days are the same - but the workload is intense!! I'm not sure i could keep it up, and certainly couldn't go much further up the career ladder, with a family to look after too - so once my contract ends i am considering going into further education to teach business studies (that's my background). I could qualify on the job and still get paid, plus would have holidays off with the kids!!

So what about everyone else? xx

I'm a part qualified Accountant (which basicly means I've got a degree and some experiance but need to pass a few further exams - one of which is Tuesday AHHHHH so no BE for me this weekend) I work in a really small practice which need me so would probably be quite flexible re: maternity etc!! I've also been thinking about retraining to teach- perhaps Accounting and Finance as that's my background! I'd quite like to be : An estate agent or travel agent though cos I'm very nosy lol and love holidays : )

I'm a Paramedic and have been for 7 years. Was a Veterinary Nurse before that. They are fairly similar jobs but you get bitten alot more by the humans!

Snap - well the qualified as a primary teacher and not doing it bit!

I am "working" as a supply teacher at the moment, I say "working" but I only did 4.5 days last half term and so far this half term I have had no phone calls to pre-book me.

I'm half-IT Consultant / half Entrepreneur Happy

basically i used to work for a big IT Consultancy - then i got fed up of being a tiny cog in a big machine so quit and started working freelance as a contractor (better pay and better hours for same work)

Finished my last contract in january and now i'm working on writing a custom software program in the hopes of selling it to get a bit of an income stream when we have babies - unfortunately i'm not being paid for it right now though

(although just had a call from someone i used to work with saying they might have some paid work on a short-term basis so might be doing some full-time work again soon)

ChocMuffin i can HIGHLY recommend setting up a business - it's so liberating to only answer to yourself! plus i just filed my first set of accounts and i felt so grown up LOL!
