Subject : Heat rash/sweating & nappy abrasion
Hi
we have been using bumgenius v3 for a while now and have been really pleased with them. However, a couple of days ago my LO has clearly encountered some rubbing on the inside leg and strangely on one bum cheek which has grazed him and made him bleed. In parallel I also notice he is also getting what appears to be a heat rash in some places under the nappy at the front. My guess is he has been sweating which has made the nappy rub and graze the skin but if anyone has any alternative ideas I'd be grateful of knowing. We have temporarily put him in disposables and are trying to give him nappy off time and dabbing the grazes with sudocrem as much as possible until the grazes heal but any ideas how to fix this as they are clearly rubbing & causing him pain? I really want him back into reusables but am worried this is going to happen again during the summer especially.
Thanks in advance
Jules

arggh just typed out a long reply and be ate it
i read a report ages ago that said reusables are actually cooler then disposables. Because it's so hot, pippa is wearing just a t shirt and her nappy no vest, shorts or anything to keep her cool. Are you doing a rinse cycle after you wash your nappies, if not you could try doing one as it might be soap powder left in your nappies that are reacting with either his wee or sweat, if you do a rinse cycle and can still see bubbles you need to do another. Are you using baby wipes i found these made pippa's bum so sore, since i switched to reusable nappies and wipes over five weks ago we've had no problems with nappy rash. Before this pippa had really bad nappy rash and her bum was bleeding and i was really struggling to get rid of it. If i think of anything else i'll let you know

thanks for your reply. we do use wipes so I have reverted back to mainly water and cotton wool just in case.
the grazes have cleared up at least so back into reuseables but he is still gettng blotchy like a heat type rash. I do do an extra rince as part of the wash so not quite sure what else. maybe I need to change him more frequently?
thanks
Jules

hi i've noticed that during the hot weather pippa's had a blotchy rash but it goes quickly when her nappy is of so i guess it may well be heat rash
