Subject : 4 days post transfer!

Hi all. I have been reading everyone's posts for the last year or so but dont oftern post anything! We finally started our IVF & ICSI on the 3rd April 2009, and after what the hospital called the longest time ever on Menopur injections finally had egg collection last Friday (8th May). They collected 5 eggs, 1 which was too mature, 1 which was too immature, and 3 which were perfect for ICSI! On Sunday 10th May they transplanted 2 embryos, both 4 cells, 1 a grade 3 and 1 a grade 2.5! So since then have been using Cyclogest twice a day as instructed and have had this week off work to rest and chill out as well as keeping all fingers and toes crossed. I also had the most fabulous acupunture during treatment and following transplant on Sunday, so was exceptionally relaxed!

I now feel great, but keep reading too much into every single sign and symptom, it is such an early stage and I know I shouldn't be reading too deeply into anything, but it is so difficult! My lower abdomen is bloated, so out goes my skinny leg jeans, and I'm struggling to know what to wear (especially to work on Monday!!), I have gone up a bra size to a 34C, and my breasts are tender and swollen, I have been suffering from on and off nausea since yesterday morning (more significant in a morning and I cannot move until I have had a small bite of something to eat), but the most signficant thing is my sense of smell has gone crazy. My nausea went crazy this morning when my husband switched the coffee machine on, and I can't go near anything that smells strongly of anything!

Am I reading far too much into this or is there a chance I could be pregnant?? Only 10 days until we can do a test so I need to wait and see!!!

Good luck to everyone.

Ooh, there's definitely a chance. The smell and nausea are good signs.

I got very bloated too, the Cyclogest played havoc with me.

Will keep everything crossed for you ....

Congratulations!
I just got mine too! I'm trying hard not to get too excited as we had a miscarriage in December but fingers crossed that this is both of our turns now.

Thank you so much to everyone. Congratulations to JCB'08 as well. When are you due? I'm having terrible morning sickness, starting at 4am!!! It wakes me up and I have to run to the bathroom!!!! Ginger tea and ginger biscuits are okay afterwards but don't even get the chance to have anything before being ill at the moment! Lasts until lunch time and then I am okay!!!! I'm never going to complain though, not after being so so lucky with falling pregnant after our first IVF/ICSI try! Just am a little tired now!!!!!

Lanni can I ask why you had to go for your 'joint' treatment, we have been recomended for the same as OH has 99% deformed sperm? WOuld be interesting since your such a success to know if it was something similar???

Hi Moonbean,

This may take some time!!! We have been trying to get pregnant for over 3 years, was found out that my hsband had very poor motility sperm and 75% of the sperm were deformed as well. He had lots of tests to find out if it was a genetics thing as we were worried about passing it on to any subsequent children, but turns out there is a chance it occured due to being a typical little boy and falling onto the cross bar of his bike one too many times and may have damaged a tube during development - that and having everything stamped on while playing rugby!!!!!!

I have perfect fertility, and am very lucky to have that. Hormones are ideal, ovulate properly and all my tests came back with no problems. However I do have Type 1 diabetes, Addisons Disease and Hypothyroidism (am collecting Endocrine problems!) - but am fit and well and with medication live a normal life.

We tried IUI at the start of 2008, but was unsuccesfull, we did not think it was going to work anyway as Matts sperm were so poor, but wanted to give it a go.

So the only option was IVF and ICSI. You have to go through the whole IVF process in order for them to be able to collect as many eggs as possible. They collected 5 from me on Friday 8th May, 1 which was too immature, 1 was too old and 3 were ideal for them to carry out the ICSI procedure on them. Then off went Matt to provide his sample, and they choose the best sperm, and rather than with IVF when then leave the sperm and egg in the same dish together and hope the sperm enter the egg with ICSI they physically inject the sperm into the egg! There has been lots of research done on whether this potentially damages the cells and causes problems in later life if a baby developes, and the stats are excellent and massively in the favour of everything being "normal". So, they managed to pop sperm into three of my eggs and the next day 2 of them had succesfully divided and were doing brilliantly well.

The stats for IVF/ICSI are about 33% per cycle depending on where you have it done. There is absolutely no point in doing just IVF if your OH has very poor sperm as they will not be able to find the eggs/enter them succesfully, and therefore becomes a waste of time and huge amount of heart ache!

We are over the moon, never in a million years thought we would become pregnant on the first go, We did have IVF/ICSI counselling two years ago and that helped us and proved that we both wanted the same thing, and helped us beable to get through the last few months of everything!

I also think it is really worth having a "plan", of what are you going to do if it does not work first time. Our plans was always that we would do three cycles of IVF and ICSI and if were always unsucessful we would make a further decision after that.

How long have you been on the waiting list for? We were told it would take 18 months - 2 years, but in fact was a little bit quicker than that. Our PCT would not fund a cycle if we had previously paid for one, so were very careful to wait for the NHS cycle to happen!

Sorry that it is a bit long, but hope it answers your worries and questions.

I also had acupuncture for 6 weeks prior to Egg collection and then before and after embryo transfer.

GEM78 - we cannot wait to see if it is twins!!!!!!!!! 12th June is our scan date! So only 11 days to wait - am being more impatient about this 2 week wait than I was about the initial 2 week wait!!!!!

Love

Lanni

Thank you so much for taking the time out to do that for me it is very much appreciated and congrats again I really am genuinely happy for you that you have had success. The waiting list is 14 months. Didn't think about the provate thing excludin you so I must ask that on my appointment on Monday.

Again thank you so much for this is it very helpful to me and all the best for the most amazing journey you will ever go on!!! It is the best ever and you will cherish every moment of it.

All the luck in the world to you x

Hi Lanni,
I wish I had symptoms like you, then maybe I wouldn't worry as much! Although I do have great sympathy for you. Maybe it's twins if you're feeling so sick?!
I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks in December, so we have been trying so hard not to get too excited. I really hope this works out for us.
My scan is on the 12th of June too! Fingers crossed for us both.

Hi Lanni,

I've only just read through your posts and I'm so happy for you and your hubby ;)

We're about to go down the ICSI route and it's been so helpful reading your story.

Hope it all goes smoothly for you,

xxxx
