Subject : fao willowsara Hiya, Sorry I have only just seen this post. I have a solitary right kidney which has hypertrophied (14cm instead of 9cm), it doesn't cause me any problems other than I have to be careful about UTI's and kidney infections (I had some bad kidney infections before I was diagnosed and there is a scare that they could scar my kidney) but I see a nephrologist (kidney specialist) every 6 months to check my kidney function. It is ok and with education I know what to do to prevent any infections etc. People can live with only one kidney, it is actually possible to survive on a quarter of a kidney so I have been told. What did your daughter weigh and what did you call her?? Sara xx |

Subject : fao willowsara Hi Claire, Amelie was born on 23rd December at 33 weeks, she was 3lb 13oz and is now about 11lb odd (getting her weighed tomorrow) and has started weaning, there are no foods that I have been told to avoid, I just have to watch my salt intake and drink loads of water each day. Amelie is still under the care of a consultant, probably until she is one, I did ask the sonographer to check she does have 2 kidneys and they assured me she has. My one kidney led to me going into premature labour in a roundabout way, I'm not trying to worry you at all cos everyone's different but because I only have one kidney, only half my uterus developed (i.e the side I have no kidney I have no uterus), it is called a unicornuate uterus and they only found out when I was in labour. This means that if we chose to have anymore children I would have another premature baby but at least it's being monitored. I don't know whether it's too early to tell with Isla but it may be something to ask them about. Glad she is doing well Sara xx |
