chickenpox outbreak!!!!!

Hi Ladies

havent been here for a while but thought I'd let you know that there is a chickenpox outbreak and my 3 year old has it!!! my lo is nearly 6 months old and i'm preying he doesnt get it too. its so hard as I am trying to keep them apart (very difficult) I'm washing my hands and changing my clothes every 5 minutes to try and reduce the contact between them. Luckily my 3 yr old isnt 'poorly' with it. just covered in horrid watery blisters. apparently its most contagious 2 days before the rash shows and it stays contagious until the spots 'crust' over, aprox 7-10 days. even then if any of us are going to get it, we may not see anything until 21 days after this. I have looked on most websites and they say babies under 1 wont get it as they are immune from it. thats why they dont get an immunisation until they are 1. however 'some' babies do get it!?

oh well, i'll see how it goes. just thought I'd worn you all and feel free to shed any light/info on the situation that may help prevent my baby from getting it too. (west mids area)

thanks x x x:\?

My friends little boy had it couple wks ago and hes 5 and half. I had been round hers alot b4 the blister appeared, and was worried coz I have a 6 month old baby too.
But she said same thing as you, that its more contagious b4 they actually appear.

my daughter caught chicken pox at 6 months she only had 30 min contact with her half sister on the day she came down with it , to be honest she delt with it fine out of them both she did best as she couldnt scratch and we just stripped her off to her nappy and covered her in cream so try not to worry to much as they may get it and be fine pluss its out the way and you wont have to worry about getting it in later years (when they know how to scratch)

they say the younger they are when they get it the better (coz they will get it at some point and i didnt think they immunised against it...) because they wont scratch as much and it will go faster and easier....

there've been kids with it round here for the last 6 months and Ollie's escaped catching it so far... which I am very glad of as it poses more of a risk to me whilst pregnant than it does for Ollie! LOL!

Louise had a cold accompanied by some viral spots a few weeks agao at 5 months. The doctor said that she was the right age for chicken pox and told me to be wary that her viral spots could be chicken pox. So, yes it seems babies under 1 can get them! There isn't an immunisation for it in this country as it's not a dangerous illness.

As a child my mum thrust me upon children who had it when I was little -I didn't get them till I was 16-which of course was awful!!lol

My 2 eldest children had it at 21mths and 2mths... though hard I'm glad to have it done with and neither of them suffered too much as they were to young to scratch too much.

I have had chicken pox 3 times!! the first time I got it I was about 3 then I got it when I was 10 and the last time was a couple of years ago when I was 22!! I told the doctor he was talking rubbish and that I cant possibly have it! But he said that in rare cases you can get it more than once!!

chickenpox outbreak!!!!!

Hello everyine, my daughter got it last march and was very poorly. I had to bath her a couple of times a night because she had it terribly in her nappy area and ebery time she weed it burnt. She was very sore, it came in her scalp and in her mouth and so could not eat either. I would not wish it on any poor lo. My next door nighbers 4 month got it and was fine! Maybe the younger the better but i couldnt bear for my lo to get it again.
However - my top tip is when the red spots appear (before they blister) apply sudocrem because it dried them out before they went pussy and they didnt amount to proper sores. Hope it helps someone else! xxx
