Thought I'd pop a bit on about Nathan's arrival......like frags_jones, also on Monday 24th November!! And even stranger......he arrived at 17.12 - 5 mins after Hugh had arrived lol
Was woken up at 6am with a contraction, went and had a wee and then back to bed as would be getting up at 7am with the other 4. Didn't sleep and had another cpl of contractions but nothing major and took some paracetamol. Got kids up, did tea for me & dh but felt very restless so left oh in charge of breakfasts and getting girls to school. Text my mum to let her know what was happening and that I was sure this was gonna be the day as I was very restless and couldn't settle - didn't even want to sit!!
dh came back and I jumped in the bath...was ok, had a cpl strong contractions but again, felt unsettled and got out after 30 mins. Mum had also arrived.....I was booked for a home birth and mum was back up for the kids if I hadn't had bub b4 they came home from school! About 12ish, things started to get a bit stronger in that I was leaving finger impressions on back of the sofa, so I rang the delivery suite who then contacted midwife on call - luckily, my own midwife!! She came round, made some notes and examined me and said she would stay - yay!! At last, I had the long awaited for gas & air........once she got the valve opened - cue a handy hubby lol
I made what they classed as excellent progress to 8/8.5cms then everything stopped progressing! Little tink-pot had turned slightly so took a bit of pressure off my cervix. So came 90 mins of changing positions & resisting the urge to push - which is FAR EASIER SAID THAN DONE!!!!!!!! Bout 5pm it was decided I should sit on the toilet as having a wee or a no2 plus a change in position (again) mite help. So, my dh and a midwife literally manhandled me out of the lounge to the downstairs toilet and there I sat and dutifully, my body obliged with a no2!!! Within about 30secs I felt that I needed to stand so they helped me up at which pount I said 'I've got a head!' Talk about pandemonium breaking loose!! I leant fully on dh, midwife shouting for the other midwife and with literally 2 pushes Nathan arrived rather ungainly into the midwife's arms....less than a foot from the toilet bowl
So, there's dh in the doorway, me leaning on him with baby & a midwife between my legs and the 2nd midwife leaning in to give the injection to help expel the placenta. Cord was clamped, cut and Nathan was swiftly wrapped in towels and handed to my mum as we needed to negotiate my return to the lounge without my other kids seeing.....so mum took Nathan upstairs quickly and they all got to say a very early 'hello' to their new baby brother! I managed to shuffle back to the lounge and just got in the room onto the plastic sheet/duvet set up we'd had down when the placenta decided to arrive lol so 2 1st's for me there.....giving birth standing up and delivering the placenta standing up as well!!!
Anyway, 4 days on, thing are going well. Tried bf but Nathan was having none of it - refused to latch and if he did latch would just play with nipple or would just scream at the boob!! So, he's now bottling and doing very well........
