HOW PREGNANT AM I?

Hi

I saw my MW yesterday and she said that I am 14 weeks and 4 days but I disagree. When I had my dating scan the Sonographer dated me as 11 weeks and 4 days and that was on Friday 13 June 2008 which makes me 15 weeks and 1 day (today). Am I correct?

If this is the case then the MW has messed up as she refused to offer me a Downs Test yesterday until I was 16 weeks which she said is 17 July. I want a Downs Test as I am terrified my baby might have Downs. I have 3 women in my life who have all had healthy babies and I am the last one in our group to have a baby and I am feel like I am not going to have the joy of a healthy baby. I feel like I will be the one in trouble.

Any advice would be great

Dating scans are usually quite accurate when done before 12 weeks. What was the first day of your last period?

Hi

You have probably done this, but have you entered your LMP on a pregnancy calculator? If you cycle was regular this can at least help you narrow it down (remember to take off or add days if you had a short or long cycle).

Also, did you get the measurements of the baby from your dating scan? that might help if you compare with a book.

My date moved from 28 Nov to 22 Nov at my dating scan. My mw is sticking with my original date as they don't change it when it's les than a week different and she said I'll be pleased with that when the baby is late (it's my first) and i get plagued with phone calls.

I still think it's the later date though as i had a short cycle (only 21 days) and they forgot to count leap year when calculating my EDD.

With the downs, i went private for a nuchal scan as my hospital didn't do it and I wanted the reassurance. Unfortunately you've missed the boat for that as its only done from 11+1 to 13+6 but there is plenty of time for you to get your blood results and find out. The odds are on your side - even a high risk result (1 in 250) means you have over a 99.5% chance of having a healthy baby. Fingers crossed you get the reassurance you need very soon.

HOW PREGNANT AM I?

Hi guys

That's the problem! I don't remember when I had my LMP. I was late in March (when I conceived) and so I don't remember. The Sonographer said that the baby was 45.8mm. My dating scan form says I was 11 weeks and 4 days. My friend who is a midwife in Leeds (i am in Bristol) said that MW is grossly incorrect and getting dates wrong, after she has been told the correct dates, is dangerous. I told my hubby and he told me to calm down, call the MW tomorrow and advise her that she mistaken and then I have an appointment on the 17th of July to have my Downs test done and again I told my hubby my fears and he said that there is no point in worrying until we know for sure and that we can't change the results. We shall have to deal with it when we get the results back. I know he's right but I want to know now what the results are. I am nail biting as we speak!!!

I am surprised how worried and/or obsessed people are with their dates?!

As far as I understand your dates are only 3 or 4 days apart! I understand that you want the test as soon as possible as these tests are pretty worrying, but what difference will 3 days make? And why do you want to insist on a particular date anyway, because baby will come when he/she is ready.

My estimated dates were 8 days apart, but they reduced it to 7 so they wouldn't have to do any more testing. We are going with my scan date for now (which is the earlier one), so I can have as much care as early as possible. Baby is also measuring large for this date, so think this was a good idea. However if I go overdue I will push them to accept the other date as my EDD, so I will not need to be induced too early.

So all in all I think it is great to have to dates that are quite a bit apart as this gives you more options.

I hope things will work out ok for you and always keep in mind that these dates are only estimates anyway. If it is just about seeing the mw 3 days earlier, I am sure they can do that. I know that with my mw tests are not done on the day you are 16 weeks (or whatever you need to be), because she only does appointments once a week, so being that I am due on a Saturday I must have been 16+4 by the time I had my blood taken for the Downs Syndrom test.
