I was told 6-8 weeks, although I drove at 4 weeks (i think) I couldn't wait any longer. I felt fine and I did go out with hubby just into our village just incase I couldn't manage it and had to swap over. I never got in touch with my insurance company. Maybe see how you feel at end of week and if you feel you need longer then give yourself longer as you don't want to cause any damage by popping open your wound.

I bought my car just before my LO was 6 weeks and they said they didn't need to know I'd had a section. I was surprised but seems they weren't bothered. Just ask your insurance company.

I was told 6 weeks before driving again but I only waited 3 weeks - couldn't have driven if I tried before that even if I'd wanted to was so bedridden!!

My insurance co also said they didn't need to know.

You'll know when you're ready to drive again!

I was walking literally 4 hours after my section and fully recovered in a few days! But I have still been told 6 weeks is when i can drive again because of insurance purposes? I dunno!

I had mine on 28th April and I was also told six weeks, which is up on Monday. I also waited 5 - 6 weeks after my first baby too. But they do say as long as you can do an emergency stop then its ok for you to drive. Try the emergency stop with someone in the car with you. You will soon know if you are ready to drive.

im gonna try an emergency stop at weekend see if i feel ok i really need to drive as my baby boy was premature and is in specail care and it would be much easier for me if i could drive myself to and from the hospital but i am a bit concerned about doing any damage although my midwife has assured i will be ok if i can do an emergency stop.
will just have to try and see if i can do one i hate not being able to drive its soooo annoying

I rang my insurance company at the weekend and they said that there is no minimum time they just need confirmation from a doctor but said that it is normally about 3 weeks after that people can do an emergency stop. there is no 6 week rule in place anymore (according to my insurance company anyway)

Hi,

I made an appointment with my doc at 4wks which was the earliest i was told to drive at. i could have driven before but chose not to and didn't need to so not an issue. in fact i did't drive until she was about 6wks in the end anyway as we were in and out of hospital with her and hubby was off work at the time.

if you feel ok, give it a try.

that is so weird you put this post on as i was going to put a post tonight! i have had 2 sections and was driving 2 weeks after the first and 4 weeks after the second and i just saw something that made me realise i was so lucky!! my friend was involved in a car accident yesterday and she not only had emergency braking but she ended up in a field and her car is a right off!! whats that got to do with sections you ask well i just saw the massive bruising she has along her middle due to the massive pressure of the seat belt and i just know if i had had an accident to that degree after my sections i would have ruptured!! not wanting to scare anyone but if i had seen her before my sections i definately wouldnt have driven for the recomended time but the decicion is yours but now you and i both know why the docs say 6 weeks cos although we try emer stops actually having them put into pratice with the after effects is a whole different story i have previously said 4 weeks was ok but not after seeing her today
