I'm a Tenancy support worker, basically supporting ex-homeless and vulnerable people in tenancies so they don't get evicted and can manage their home. also try to get them back into work/training. just wondering what other mums do for work?

I work as a Child care social worker, just returned to work after taking 3 years out. Glad to be back but find it hard working with very vunerable young children when my own children are so young. I coped with the job better when I didnt have children. I work part -time, I could not cope full time, too busy with my 3 boys.

I'm a Senior Clerical Officer in a Higher Education College and love my job. I am due to go back to work on 1st July which I am not looking forward to in a way as I have to leave Kara. Although in a way I am looking forward to get back to mix with the others again. Probably when I am back I will wish I was off again spending time with Kara. Bills have to be paid though so I have no choice.

Before I left for maternity leave, I was a business manager for a busy MINI dealership - I loved it even though the hours were long and the pressures were huge. I decided to take a 'demotion' just before finishing as I didn't think I could deal with the really long days and working lots of weekends when my little baby arrived. It was the right decision for sure as although I have to go back to work on 7th April, it's Monday - Friday 9am till 5pm with no pressure at all!! I'm going back to be a corporate sales administrator at the same dealership but working for the BMW side rather than MINI.

Hi Mickymatt
I'm a helicopter administrator for an offshore company and I started back at work on Monday for 4 days a week. My little boy is 6 1/2 months now.
I have to say I am so pleased i've come back to work! I done it for financial reasons but i'm sdo glad i did. I have missed Shea like crazy but he was getting to the stage where he was getting really needy for me so I think it's done him some good me being away and it also made me feel like an human adult again!! I love being a mum but I couildn't be a fulltime at home mum - it would drive me in sane!!
It's my last day of the week now and although I'm very tired I feel like i've accomplished alot this week and am very proud of myself for coping so well.
If I could give you any advice it would be to get yourself organised the night before!! If your not organised life will be a nightmare!!
Good luck and let me know how you get on
x

I'm self employed and work from home. I'm currently applying for a wedding licence to hold civil ceremonies etc at our home and we also are planning a number of musical events. I have just got our website live and had a thumbs up from the police events team for an event I am planning on 26th May, so have got lots of work to do in getting the marketing done for that event to ensure the tickets sell.
I have 3 children aged 13, 9 and nearly 5 months...and are sort of trying for no.4 - we must be mad!!!
I do miss being employed and having a regular salary - but being self employed and our home being our business means that I can fit it around Violet - though of course it does mean that I tend to do a lot of work at night too!

I'm a primary teacher, still on mat leave but can do 10 'keeping in touch' days aka 'easy supply money!' at my school while off. I did a day 3 week back and am doing a day and a half next week. I really enjoed being back there (not like I've left really as ds1 started there in Sept so I'm there twice a day!) and will be ready to go back in September, hopefully p/t providing hubby (also a primary teacher) gets a deputy headship!

Hi Ginger,
I'm a accountant too! Been waiting to sit my finals since first major flunk in '96!!!. Work pressures were crap so I decided to get work back on track before trying again. Then my daughter came along, I lost my dad and I thought sod it there are more important things in life than exams!!! I do eventually intend on qualifying. The fact that you can now get a year off for mat leave means I'll be able to study one day a week. Or so the plan is!
Hat's off to all working mothers who let's face it are still expected to do all the childcare, ironing, cleaning etc etc....
Rant over
xx

Hi Lychees,
ACCA. Fortunately for me they changed the syllabus again which meant an extention for time limit on completing the exams, plus they also now allow individual pass retentions which they didn't before. The only thing is I now need to do a couple of papers from scratch. Never mind!!!
Good luck for your Nov exams. When's your baby due?

hi im a full time hca for elderly people in their own homes. I love my job but i seem to get so sucked in and find it hard not to leave it behind when i come home! I currently work until 2pm monday to fri and until 1pm at weekends. it works well for us as me and daughter have lunch together,go to park get shopping ect and then go home where hubby finshes at 3:30 so we get alot more time together than alot of working parents and then we play altogether until teatime,i get dinner whilst they set the table and then we all snuggle down and watch a bit of t.v or do some colouring and then when daughter goes to bed we get some adult time (me on here and hubby watching t.v lol)

I was a full time HCA in my local hospital working on the medical ward. We specialise in rehab and the terminally(sp?) ill. We take all ages but usually our cliental (sp?) is 60 plus. I now work part time, went back after 10.5 months off for mat leave. I love my job. I'm lucky aswell as work have agreed to work my shifts around oh as he works a set shit pattern so I don't have to worry about childcare and its costs.

I am going back full time initially, but I totally underestimated how I was going to feel about it and I cannot bear the thought of leaving my little boy who is only 4 months! I am in Jersey and the maternity leave is different here, we dont get so long off. But I dont even care now, I dont care about the money at all, I just want to be off with my boy. I am going to see if I can drop my hours...not even back to work yet and I am already thinking how I can get around thinkgs...fingers crossed x

Hi everyone,
I'm mummy to Emma, who's almost 18 months old. I work as a Business Analyst (full time), and took 6 months off when she was born. I am lucky though - my mum, aunt and my husband's mum share babysitting, so we don't have to worry about nursery/childminder fees. It's great having people we know and trust to look after our daughter - I don't know if I'd have been comfortable enough to leave her with strangers!

Hi everyone. Since having my son in December, I now work for myself as a health and beauty product consultant, I also coach people in setting up their own businesses like mine. It has changed my life as I now do not need to worry about childcare as I work around my children (11,4 and 7months!). Seems a world away from working full time in BT with 2 children! If anyone would like any information please let me know...:\)
