Think I'll need a new car Frown

Hi ladies,

I have a Suzuki Grand Vitara soft top, which I love. But I remember doing some research, waaaayyy before my bfp, and you can only really safely put a baby car seat in the centre of the back seat. Plus being 3 door, it'll be a pain getting the seat in and out if I have Isofix or something.

So not only are we getting the expense of a baby, I have to decide what car I want, and find one at a decent price!!

I want 4/5 door, and I'm ok with a reasonably big car as I had an old Vauxhall Cavalier with a boot, before the Suzuki.

Oh decisions decisions, it's bad enough with everything else to think about with a baby coming!! Surprised xx

Same here!

i've got an Audi A3 sport with only 3 doors..not ideal with twins on the way.

gutted but have to get rid of it.

We've been looking at the honda C-RV (i think) and the nissan quash-quai's.

Who knew babies could be SOOOO expensive!

when i was pregnant with daniel i had a suzuki o2 soft top and that was a 3 door,it was a pain getting the car seat in and out so in the end we had to change the car,we got a peugeout 307 and i love it to bits, the best car ive had but now we need to change it to a 7 seater as with twins we cant go out as a family,if we do we need to take both cars out which is such a hassle,so were thinking of a audi q7..

We had a mini cooper s and decided when i was about 12 weeks that it was just waaayyyy to small for everything u need as well as a baby so unfortunatley (much to my hubbys dismay) we sold it and bought a honda civic 5 door. its fab, huge boot, farrrrrrrrrrrr more economical and has all the isofix fastenings we need for our car seat.

Thanks Sarah. I thought it would be a lot of hassle with a car seat. I'm going to have to have a walk around the car showrooms I think, and see if any car takes my fancy! xx

We've just sold our Nissan Micra 3 door which I loved - I still miss it as it was a really cute lime green but even though we would have managed - it would have been a struggle with a baby and a dog and all that comes with them

We've gone for a Nissan Note - which is a great car, very practicle and economical, big enough but not too big (especially after a Micra!). We got one thats less than a year old for £7500 which we thought was a good price, but the older ones are a lot cheaper.
Theyre great for a family and even have an extra shelf in the boot, back seats that go forwards to make the boot bigger and food and drinks trays in the back for the kids! I didnt look at any other cars so cant say what else is good but hope it helps!

Good luck with the car shopping!

I can not recommend estate cars highly enough. IME you always need more space and having estates has been so helpful.

I had a MINI COOPER S and had to sell it when I had my son, really do miss it loads but got a BMW X5 now which I love but just can't park it,,, lol.... I would strongly recommend a 4 door car with a baby and a big boot! My partner has a coupe and I hate putting the car seat in and out, it drives me mad ......... x x x

I've got a 3door corsa and we've struggled through after having 1st lo but there's noway we can have 2 in it. We can only have the car seat behind the passenger seat and the pram fills the boot, even my stroller is a struggle to get in and out, so we're having to get something bigger def need a 5 door couldn't cope without it's too hard work lol

I think I am going to have to give up my 3 door soft top for my husbands estate as it will my life easier. We will just swap so won't need to buy a new one.

Hubby and I have both changed cars. He had a 2 seater, which he's now changed for a "more practical" 4 door Mitsubishi Evo. WhateeeEver! I've changed from my Yaris 3 door, which I absolutely loved, to a 5 door Mitsubishi Colt. It's not as fun or fast as the Yaris, but it ticks all the boxes for a mummy car. Smile Hubby didn't have to spend any more money to change, but we had to put in a fair bit to change my car. We started looking for mine after the 12 week scan, and I didn't find anything I liked until a couple of weeks ago (I am now 32+4).

Me and oh couldn't afford to change cars really so we kept them. I have a 3 door Fiesta and it's not as bad as everyone thinks, I've never struggled with the car seats. OH has a Ford Puma & a Ford Capri (which is off road at the mo!!). The Puma is a 3 door obviously and it's a nightmare cos its so low so I would def recommend changing cars!! Oh is a total hater of all 'parenty' cars so it's a good thing we only have the 1 child and no plans for anymore!! Boot size is a must too - depending on what pushchair you go for - We have the Graco mirage and it fits nicely in all 3 cars but if you had one of the bigger, posher pushchairs with a chassis, and carrycot/seat unit etc they are a nightmare in a smaller car.

We have a Honda Jazz, and despite being very roomy for a small car, it's just not big enough.

So, we've bought (well, ordered, it won't arrive until Christmas) a Skoda. I had to really swallow my pride as I'm old enough to remember Skoda's old, dreadful reputation, but have to keep reminding myself that they're now just cheaper VWs.

We're getting an Octavia Estate. Am dreading driving anything so big as am used to Corsas and the Jazz, but at least it has parking sensors!

I had a chev matiz 5 dr when i had my daughter and it was fine as a run around for the 2 of us as my hubby had the family car- seat Leon 5 door but we have both got slightly bigger cars now as we have 2nd on way. I have the chev Kalos 5 dr,much more space, isofix, bigger boot but good on fuel, easy to park and stuff and gets in garage easily, lol and hubby now has a ford focus C-max which is fantastic, loads of space with huge boot! x

I have an 8 month old Clio which is my pride and joy but we have decided, as my body decided 1 baby just wasnt enough (lol) that a 3-door car with twins is just not going to be big enough. Im gutted but I have to sell mine as its on HP before I can buy a new one so just hoping someone wants my baby for enough to pay off the finance. We figured 1 baby would be fine in it but 2 is a problem!!

gemmibaby- mine is on finace not HP tho. I had my matiz on fanince and when i wanted a new Kalso, because I had paid over half the car, I sent it (the matiz) back to the fiance company and started a fresh with my new car. If this is an option for you, speak to your dealer. They helped me alot with mine. Someone comes out to check your car over, and takes it away so you havent got to do anything like take it anywhere
I did have to pay a deposit on new car x

I had this dilemma when we found out we were expecting. I had a peugeot 206 (3 door car) and i'd had for ages, hubby has a van as he loves it! So we thought long and hard and decided to lok for new car. Bought new 1 at end of march, its a vauxhall meriva, its like a mini people carrier and it is really spacious yet compact. I love it. I went from 1.1 small car to 1.8 slighlty bigger car and found it to be no problem. Although i had accident in car the other week but that a different story lol!! We part ex'd my old one for the lovely new one and my old one had couple of scratches on it!! xxx

I had a citroen c3 5 door but did not think it would be practical with a baby not much room in the back or the boot, hubby has a cirtoen xara for work which we could use but decided we would get a new family car eventhough it's my car. WE have now got a ford c-max huge boot, shooping only feels up half the boot unlike my old car. It is a big car for me i'm only 5ft and have to keep changing seat positions if hubby uses it but it is a nice car to drive and again my favorite colour Red. All my cars have been Red.

Thanks for all your replies.

OH had a VW Passat, which is a bit too long for me. It always sticks out of spaces! But at least we are only changing one car! Mummy car, here I come! lol xx
