Telling people

I know i shouldnt worry about what people think and if it was any other situation i would be fine, but ive been that hormonal im starting to worry what work will say when i announce im pregnant, im 18 next month but well face it i am 17. I do want this baby sooo much even though it wasnt planned, i live with my partner and we've been together 3 years. Im just looking for a bit of advice on how everyone else in my situation went about telling work (or even anyone else along that kind of lines)? Also it may sound silly but i cant be sacked or anything can i?

Thanks girlies, hope your all well :)

Hey sweetie,

I was in a similar situation to you with regards to telling my family. I was so scared about what my parents would say and just didnt want them to be disapointmed with me.
You just have to pluck up the courage and go for it. At the end of the day you have been with your partner for three years and are therefore (im guessing) in a pretty stable relationship.
My mom was shocked at first - but is now so excited! She has brought me soooo much for the baby - which I didnt expect at all!
Just take into account when people are shocked - they re-act differently... so just give your parents a bit of time to get used to the idea! Im sure it wont be long before they are sharing the excitment with you!
As for my dad - he hasnt got back in touch with me since I told him but I dont care!! He wasnt around for years of my life so I wasnt expecting much more but my point there is dont waste your time on people that are not going to be supportive of you! Its YOUR life and YOUR choice - make sure you remember that hun x

Oh and work cannot sack you! Take a look at this website for your entitlements - you dont have to tell work until around 19 weeks before the baby is due? I think... But everything should be on the link below! x

Hey sweetheart. I found out i was pregnant a month before my 18 birthday.

People are going to be shocked - my dad didn't talk to me for about a month without getting angry and my 18th birthday was totally ruined by the whole situation.

BUT soon as harry was born, everyone just fell in love. He;s the best thing thats happened to our family and its brilliant.

You don't have to tell work before the 25th week of your pregnancy and there is absolutely no way they can sack you. You can sue them for unlawful dissmissal if they do.

I'd not even started my job when i found out! So i was pregnant before i went into full time work (i worked part time before that and took my a levels).

I just sat my boss down and told her i was pregnant, i'm not sure what happens next in work and could she help me. HOWEVER. I read up on as many different things as possible about discrimination, and what SHOULD happen at work once you are pregnant, just soi couldn't be screwed over by anyone.

You will get time off (paid) for midwife and scan appointments, they should also complete a health and safety form and check on what you do for work and how (IE if you have to lift stuff, etc).

They should also have a company procedure with everything you need to know regarding the company and pregnancy while you work for them.

If you have worked for them for 6 months BEFORE the 25th week of your pregnancy you will be entitled to company maternity pay.

If not you need to apply for statuatory maternity pay.

Gotta look into allllll the financial things now!

Wow how sad am i!? Xxx

AND back onto the original topic lol - you can't worry about telling people because one way or another they are going to find out. Best to bite the bullet and just go for it! xxxx
