YES!! I ranted for about an hour at my OH this week about him setting our child up for a lifetime of bullying when it turned out he wasn't joking when he suggested Gianfranco!

lol know what you mean ladies, my OH doesnt like any of the names i like and always says he knows someone with that name. I was like errrmmm well im sure most of the baby names out there have been used before!! Drives me mad! He wants 'Dane' as a boys middle name as it was his best mate that died a few years ago which ive agreed to but will change my mind if he doesnt give some proper input with other names!!!! I like Scarlett Rose or Bailey Brooke for a girl and Joshua Dane for a boy but keep hearing others i like! There are too many names to choose from!!!!
I saw a baby name book with 40,001 names!! What's with the extra 1!! lol xxxx

Wonderlandgirl we are the complete opposite, we can't think of any boys names we like!!

He first suggested Gianfranco or Gianluca when we were in Italy on our honeymoon and I laughed thinking he was kidding, turns out he wasn't! He said something about loving the Italian way of life, not really a reason to choose a name!

I have to spell my surname every time, sometimes my first name too, people seem to like adding extra letters or giving my 3 letter name a more exotic spelling lol!

I think you can get away with more unusual girls names but I like traditional boys names. Someone commented yesterday on another thread that men like to blend into the crowd and be one of the boys and not have a name that makes them stand out. That is true of every boy/man I know! Something our stupid menfolk need to remember lol!

Our surname is King so of course hubby has come up with some cracking boys names - Juan, Joe, Foo.. you get the gist!!
Luckily we are having a girl and he has picked a name that I lke, not 100% on it but he is refusing to budge and I can't think of any others!

Our surname is Payne and hubby wanted to call our 1st Willy (if a boy obviously)...needless to say I rejected that suggestion. Seriously, imagine the stick the poor kid would get being called Willy Payne!!!

Wannababy...it's not too early at all. Before we even decided to start trying for our first, hubby and I had names picked for a girl (Madison Ashley) and a boy (Spencer)...we had a girl so got to use Madison Ashley!

Had to reply cos my hubby's exactly the same with the stupid suggestions!

My hubby was the same until i had a mega strop about 2 weeks ago and told him the name issue was stressing me out more than the birth. He then sat down and read the name book and made his own list (i wasn't allowed to look while he did it!) I was actually pleasantly suprised with the nice names he chose (there were still a few dodgy ones)

Baby boy is due tomorrow and we still dont have a name. Down to a short list of 6 but still not found one that we both 'love'!!!

ha ha ha, i'm in the same boat - it's always boy's names isn't it! DH wants a boy to be called James after him - err no i've already lost my sirname not my imagination too. Only other suggestion he comes up with is Dave! That's for a boy or a girl! I wouldn't mind so much but the cats already called Dave and i'm certainly not naming a child after my cat (cute as he may be!)

I was lucky, I said I would pick girls name but we both had to agree and he would pick the boys. We are having a girl but for a boy he picked Logan and I loved it.

At lease some have a sense of humour! We haven't got as far as discussing names yet so have all this to look forward to.
Jamiep, your post reminded of someone my husband works with. He isn't from the UK but is called Bent Winkle. Quite unfortunate.

Have been giggling through this, we have a different sort of problem as had picked boys name as expected to be having another boy - we already have 4 - only to be told its a girl so trying to find one we can both agree on is difficult!!!

Rosapenny you are very brave to let hubby choose coz my hubby just comes out with the same name everytime and i just dont like it and STILLL he doesnt listen!!!

Mrs Ikea i love your boys names, i have a Jamie Owen if that helps!!!

Good luck girls

Mrs I - we also have Ryley and Grace (similar to Gracie) on our short list.
Thankfully h2b as been quite god with names, except the fact want one really loves the other hates but we do have a few names on a short list, but won't decide on the name until baby is born even tho we are finding out the sex, as i do believe babies look like a name

Anyhow as h2b is fine thought i'd share what my grandad wanted when my mum was pregnant with my brother

"Lord Thornton Pereguin"

What the hell was he thinking, we go to public schools and are far from rich and he came up with that name, he still tells my mum about it now, he was so deadly serious haha

Emilie and Sam I had to read your post twice, I was wondering what on earth was wrong with Sam then I clicked! How could he possibly think boom was a good idea??

Just wanted to update, OH informed me yesterday that the 1 boys name we had agreed on, he has decided he doesn't like it anymore! So now we are back to nothing and absolutely no idea. Thank god we are having this conversation at 10 weeks instead of 40 or we would be completely screwed! We really need it to be a girl and then I need to work on him to convince him that Lola is an amazing name!

He is so stubborn he barks no at me before I have even finished the word, "How about Charli... NO! Why what's wrong with Char... NO!!"
Man he is annoying!!

Mrs Ikea you have the same first choice as me
Emelia Jane (the Jane bit being named after my mother)!!!
I have the additional problem of that my partner is Italian and I am English and we live in Italy. I want a name that can be pronounced the same in both countries. Partner speaks with an English accent as lived over there for 11 years, so everytime I think of a name I have to go round to see my nieces and ask them to say it in Italian!!!!!!
He also keeps suggesting stupid obscure Italian names like Cosimino and Pascalina!
Like that helps!!!!!

Anyway for a girl I am set on Emelia Jane and for a boy Luca Robert

If it makes you feel better SBJr was a week old before he was named LOL!

My ex kept suggesting Nelson when I was pregnant with SBJr. He wouldn't consider anything else and just kept saying "Nelson is a cool name" I won that one eventually Happy

Imagine my horror when I was pregnant with TJ and Takers and his mates suggested Nelson!! It was a bit easier this time cos I just said "oh my ex wanted to call SBJr that" and it was never mentioned again LOL!

You are in a similar situation that I was in. My OH's family are Italian. My eldest is called Emilia, my youngest is called Thea but her second name is Valentina and they all call her Valentina. I really liked Valentina but didn't want it shortened to Val or Tina.

Finding names was a struggle as there were very few Italian girls names I liked

Anyone else get fed up with mens suggestions of baby names?

My oh wanted Jesus or Elvis for boys names.
By the end of my 1st pregnancy he lost interest
in the name Jesus-it only took 9 months. Luckily
we had a girl. He was certain if our next baby was
a boy it should be called Elvis, he told all our family
and friends. Being very nervous about just how sure
he was I encouraged him to buy a chameleon, which
he had always wanted. Upon getting the creature home
he was stuck for a name, so I casually sugguested
Elvis. He loved the idea. So that was that, pressure off,
we couldn't have a second Elvis in the house.
He didn't miss out though because we had another girl so
it was win win. But that's my sugguestion, let them get a pet
to get the silly names out of their system x

My sisters ex suggested Deco for my nephew! I think that might be a footballers name. Luckily they decided on Daniel so he got a normal name!

H2B didn't really suggest anything silly- never really suggested anything at all! Every day I said to him have you thought about names? And his reply was no I have been too busy. For god's sake, I'm giving you the chance to be involved so if you are too damn busy I'll decide by myself!! In the end he agreed with one of my choices, Haiden Elise. He decided to change Haiden to have an i rather than a y. At least he made some sort of contribution!!
