When is old too old?
hi,
Been TTC no.2 for over 16 months. Will be 46 at next birthday. Wondering if I'm just getting too old and whether to give up trying. Already have a healthy boy of 22 months so can't really complain. But hubby and I don't want our son to be an only child. Feel helpless 'cos we're too old to get help from NHS and don't have the money or energy to go through IVF privately.
Is there anyone on BE who's had a baby after 45?
At what age would you stop trying to have a baby?

Hi Gina
Last week at work one of my colleagues announced she was pregnant and she is 45, so don't give up. Your BFP maybe just round the corner.
Good luck and let us all know how you go on.
Best Wishes

Hi Gina
Have also replied in ltttc.
If you are too old then so am i!!! I am 48 now but although i am having a lot of menopause symptoms now, until its all over, it isnt! If that makes sense lol.
If this helps you at all, i came off the pill at 44 and fell pg perfectly naturally aged 45 and a half. Sadly i lost that baby and havent fallen again since but i wanted to give you some hope that it can happen.
Good luck and hope this helps.
lots of love, bluebird xxxx

I think you'll know yourself when you are too old because it really is such a personal experience. Given that you have a 22 month old, I doubt you are by the way!
Why not just keep trying until the menopause, doesn't seem any harm in doing what you can until the decision is taken out of your hands.
Wishing you lots of luck xx

When is old too old?
hi,
Thanks for everyone's encouraging words. I suppose I probably won't stop trying until my body naturally gives up. Of course, the later a BFP happens, the more worried I'd be about having a baby with medical problems. When I was pregnant the first time, I was mega worried about Downs and other things the doctors wanted to test me for. We did not want invasive tests or anything that involved risk of miscarriage. So it wasn't until lo was born that I finally was able to stop worrying.
Bluebird, I'm sorry you lost your baby. You seem to be still very positive about your chances, which is an admirable state of mind. Good luck to you.
xx
