i'm on cerazette atm, it's a mini pill and u have a 12 hour window in which to take it as opposed to the usual 6 hour. u don't have a break on it which means so far no period always a bonus, however I have come dangerously close to missing the 12 hour window a couple of times so 3zm considering getting the implant which u can leave in for up to 3 yrs but can have it removed as soon as u like if u don't like it or decide to start ttc, and as soon as its out apparantly ur fertility is straight back to normal. speak to ur gp and tell them ur breastfeeding and they shld be able to give u a list of options that won't affect ur milk

After I had Milie I took Cerazette, but I didn't get on with it at all. I was going to have a Mirena coil fitted this time but apparantly you have a slightly higher risk of a perforated womb if you are bfing so I went for the implant instead. Not had it in very long (about 6 weeks) so it's still settling down. Had quite a lot of spotting but no other side effects at all so at the minute I'm happy with it.

I had the old fashioned copper coil fitted and apart from slightly heavier periods, it's fine.
I didn't want ANY hormoes in me at all and so opted for that.
I have finished breast feeding now but will definitely keep the coil in until ttc No.2, all being well..

Thanx for the replies girls - im avoiding the implant as i had it for 2yrs prior to having Evan and didnt like the side effects, also i suffered 3mcs after its removal, prior to this id had 2 healthy pgs, might not be connected but for me as i want to ttc no4 next yr i dont want to risk it.
Does the coil have no hormones at all? I really want to ttc and not have to worry about hormones etc settling down....the thought of it being put in freaks me out though....stupid really seeing as ive had 3bubbas lmao! xxxxxx

The mirena coil is inpregnated with a hormone BUT it does NOT enter your blood stream just radiates round your womb so as soon as it is taken out your fertility returns to normal, this was part of the attraction to me! The copper coil has no hormones but as marathon bar said it usually causes heavier periods and as a sufferer with this anyway there was no way I was going there were as the mirena has a side effect of no periods (as has been the case with me) which is total JOY!
Having it put in is not the nicest but for me was only slightly worse than a smear and as you say no where near as bad as childbirth!

I cant recommend cerazette enough- it is fab for me but it is one of those pills that either agree with you or dont. It didnt affect my supply plus no WB or AF at all!!! It also doesnt take long to get back out your system coz last time I came off it I was pregnant 7 weeks later!

As craftycharlie says, the copper coil has NO hormoes but the mirena one does.
That's why I opted for the copper coil but yes, it does make your periods heavier but as soon as it is out you are immidiately back to 'normal'.
Honestly, I think my periods only appear 'heavier' as i was on the pill for 15 years before ttc to conceive Ruby and had hardly any bleeding each month!
I didn't personally feel a thing when they put it in. Better than a smear for me!

Hi Kim,
Long time no see!!! How are you? I take it the move went ok?
I have just had the copper coil fitted again (had it before I fell pg) and as the others have said, it has no hormones but can make your periods heavier. I personally didnt find this but everyone is different. Its a little unpleasant having it fitted but once its in you dont have to worry about it. I got on really well with it last time having had it for just under 2 years, hopefully will be fine again.
Hopefully catch up with you soon?!
