Family holidays in Morocco

You might think Morocco is a bit too exotic a destination to take a baby. But this North African destination is far from an adult-only holiday spot.

If you're thinking of travelling to Morocco with the family, there are many options for children of all ages from babies upwards.

Best for babies: Les Deux Tours (in the Palmeraie, just outside Marrakech)

Flat, grassy gardens are perfect for pushchairs, with plenty of palm-shade where you can park a buggy while you swim and sunbathe.

You can request a room close to the restaurant (which you won’t want to miss with its Michelin-starred chef), and babysitting is available if you want to take a solo trip round the famous streets and souks of Marrakech.

Best for toddlers: Hippocampe, Oualidia (two hours north- east of Marrakech)

What family with a toddler would say no to a seemingly endless stretch of sandy beach which you’ll have more or less to yourselves between October and June?

Toddlers will love lagoon-life at this small, family-run hotel, while you'll adore eating their lobster and oysters - Oualidia is the country’s main oyster centre - on the expansive terrace.

Best for single parents: Dar Meziana, Chefchaouen (northwest Morocco)

For a solo parent with child in tow, Chefchaouen (pronounced ‘Chef-sha-wen’) is somewhere that feels manageably small and really safe.

Everything is simple: buildings are all pure white and sky blue, the atmosphere is chilled and the streets are spotlessly clean.

Stay at Dar Meziana, a beautiful riad in this otherworldly, overwhelmingly pretty place.
