Celebs having babies out of wedlock

What with the marriage rate in England and Wales now at its lowest since it was first calculated in 1862, babies being born out of wedlock are becoming more common.

While it may have been shocking for our grandmothers to give birth without rings on their fingers, nowadays it’s the norm and with celebs leading the way, it’s no longer taboo to have not said ‘I do’.  

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Angelina announced that not only were she and Brad a couple, but that she was also pregnant with his lovechild back in 2006. The couple has since had 5 other children (3 adopted).   

The Tinseltown couple have both been married before; Brad famously married Jennifer Aniston in 2000, while Angelina is twice-divorced from actors Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton.

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves

Matthew and Camila are on a baby roll. Levi Alves was born in 2008 and their second is due already in the latter part of this year.

Maybe Matthew doesn't want to wed because of his wild side - in 1999 he was arrested for a disturbance of the peace in which he was found naked and playing the bongos!

Charlotte Church and Gavin Henson

The two Welsh love-birds started early and already have two children: Ruby Megan Henson was born on 20 September 2007; and her younger brother, Dexter Lloyd, followed at the beginning of 2009.

The couple is known for wanting a huge family, Charlotte has said that she wants four to six children, whereas Henson wants eight! Will any of the future Henson sprogs be married in wedlock we wonder…

Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck

These Hollywood stars killed two birds with one stone by announcing their pregnancy and engagement at the same time, after Ben’s wedding to Jennifer Lopez was called off less than a year before.

Even though their daughter was technically born in wedlock, Jennifer gave birth to baby Violet Anne Affleck just 6 months after she walked down the aisle. They now have a second daughter, Seraphina Rose Elizabeth Affleck, who was born early this year. 

 

Maddonna and Guy Ritchie

Always the extrovert, Madonna is the proud mother of not one but two love children.
Lourdes was born back in 1996 and fathered by Madonna’s personal trainer, Carlos Leon.  
Her second, Rocco is the son of our home-grown, British film director, Guy Ritchie. Guy did make an honest woman of Madge four months after the birth of their son. They also have an adopted son David, but the couple split in 2008.

Emma Bunton and Jade Jones

The former Spice Girl gave birth to her own ‘baby spice’  in 2007  with long term partner and former Damage singer Jade Jones. Baby Beau Lee Jones was born on 10th August, after Emma was diagnosed with endometriosis, a condition which can reduce fertility.

It looks as though marriage won’t be on the cards for a while  as Bunton has been quoted saying “we don't need a wedding to justify our relationship”.

Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry

If once bitten twice shy is anything to go by then it seems Halle Berry certainly won’t be making marital commitment to the father of her child, model Gabriel Aubry.

Twice-divorced Halle gave birth to Nahla Ariela two and a half years after her and Gabriel began dating.
