Asda gets tough on parking space abuse
  • Asda gets tough on parking space abuse

  • Our campaign to protect mum and baby parking spaces wins nationwide backing from ASDA supermarkets.

The Prima Baby and Babyexpert campaign to protect parent and child parking spaces from drivers who abuse the system has won nationwide support from ASDA supermarkets.

Following their trial at 6 Asda stores in Liverpool, where a £60 fine was imposed for those who parked in parent and child spaces when they had no child with them, Asda have announced today that they will be rolling out the scheme to all Asda stores nationwide. People who hog disabled parking spaces will also be fined.

"At Asda we have decided to take a stand to keep specialised parking spaces available to those customers who need them," says Paul Hedley, ASDA's Customer Service Manager.

"Most customers using these bays without good reason don't realise their actions impact on people that rely on them to do their weekly shop. We are not handing out tickets to make a profit as the money raised will go back to charity"

Parking attendants will be patrolling all ASDA car parks from Monday 14th January, and will be handing out £60 fines for misuse of parking in a mother and baby or disabled bay.

Posters will warn shoppers not to use parent and child or disabled spaces unless they are entitled. Leaflets will raise awareness of the clampdown, car park hosts will be on hand to alert customers to the scheme and loudspeaker messages will remind shoppers not to misuse parking spaces.

The Prima Baby S.O.S. campaign has already won support from the Government as well as thousands of mums on the Babyexpert website. Click here to read more about it, and here to add your name to our petition. The more Babyexpert users who add their name to our list, the more influence we can have on other supermarkets, so if you would like to see your local supermarket following the Asda initiative, sign now!
