  • Susan Walker and her son Alfie (9) and friends Kate Parks and son Joseph (9) stayed at Keycamp's La Pointe St Gilles and Les Menhirs campsites in Brittany, France.

‘We opted to go to Poole in Dorset to catch the Fastcraft ferry to Cherbourg, which halved our crossing and drive time through France. Our first stop was Benodet in southern Brittany, staying in a Villagrand three-bedroom mobile home. It was compact but equipped with everything you'd need for a successful stay with children. Plus, there was a great swimming pool and a pine-fringed beach just across the road, so we didn't need to go far to keep the kids entertained. The second half of our stay was in Carnac, an easy drive away down the coast. This time our three-bedroom, two-bathroom Grand mobile home was much more spacious and better suited to a two-family party. Here, there was an extensive pool area with water chutes and a relatively wild and unspoilt coastline. Both campsites have well-run Funstation kids' slubs for older toddlers, and at La Pointe St Gilles there are Tumble Tots sessions for under-3's. Plus, on all keycamp sites you can pre-book a travel cot, highchair and baby bath, and hire an all-terrain buggy. The quality of accommodation and entertainment is excellent and breaking up a two week holiday at different sites is something I'd recommend.'

Best thing: ‘The beaches were relatively quiet, even though we went in August.'

Worst thing ‘Some mobile homes are tiny - go for the biggest one you can afford.'
