If your child sleeps in a cot, crib or moses basket
* It's best if your baby sleeps in a cot in your room for the first six months. Always lay him on his back
* Place him in the feet-to-foot position so his feet are at the bottom of the cot
* Bedding should be tucked in and come no higher than his shoulders
* Don't use a quilt for babies under 1
* Don't share a bed with your baby if you or your partner smoke, have taken drugs that make you drowsy or been drinking.

If your child sleeps in a cot bed
* The room should be between 16-20°C
* A blanket doubled counts as two blankets
* Use a mix of sheets and blankets, depending on temperature
and clothing
* Help your baby stay cool: don't let your baby sleep in a hat; don't put the cot by a radiator; don't use a quilt with a sleeping bag.
