  • Christianne and Lauren McKenzie (21m) stayed at Banbury Hill Farm, Charlbury, Oxfordshire

‘We stayed in one of the six self-catering cottages at this lovely farm, but there are bed and breakfast, plus caravan pitch options too. The cottage was clean, cosy and had an open fire. Thoughtful touches, like tea and biscuits, and little bottles of shampoo, made it feel like a hotel, and it had all the basics plus baby equipment, including a highchair and cot. Outside there's a play area with ride-on toys and a play house. Children can also feed the animals and collect eggs. Further afield are wildlife parks, bird sanctuaries and pretty towns, or you can go on a nature trail round the farm and explore the Cotswold countryside.'

Best thing: ‘The on-site shop sold freshly baked croissants every morning.'

Worst thing: ‘Trying to prise collected hens' eggs from Lauren's clutches.'

    Rating *****

How much? A self-catering stay in a two-bedroom cottage starts at £450 for seven nights in mid-season (June).
