Wow! I'm having a baby!

Wow! I'm having a baby!

Week 21
I’ve just come back from a lovely week of relaxing in Spain, and apart from resembling a beached whale in my swimming costume, it was a totally lovely and relaxing time.
Although I try to not let the house renovations get me down when you’re away from them, you really do feel really relaxed as there is nothing to do.
Toby’s parents and sister and family came too, which was really nice. David, our nephew, is three and such a treasure. When I see Toby playing with him, I just know he is going to be the best Dad ever, not least because he is quite happy to spend an hour pretending to be a monster!
It got me thinking about what it will be like when the baby actually comes along (I’ve already told Toby he mustn’t feel downhearted when he/she doesn’t laugh immediately at his well honed monster/dinosaur impression as I’m not sure how much a one day old baby will be into it, but that won’t mean that they won’t think it’s funny later).
To be honest I imagine I’ll be the one doing all the getting up in the night. Apart from the fact I’m really keen on breast feeding and I’m a really light sleeper, I think it’s only fair because Toby is going to have to get up for work in the morning. At least I’ll be able to hopefully snatch a few hours sleep in the day when the baby is sleeping too.
Anyway I know that if the baby so much as moves a muscle I will be wide awake. I wake up when the milk float goes past in the morning or even when Toby turns over in his sleep so when there is a tiny baby that needs feeding, I imagine I’ll be wide awake just like that! We’ll see.
A few of my pregnant friends have complained about finding it hard to sleep through the night already as it’s not that comfortable with the bump but I don’t notice it that much. I sleep on my side anyway and even though I get up at least twice to go to the toilet and pretty much always wake up at about 5.30am and then just snooze for a couple of hours, I consider that a good nights sleep. I think I’m made to be a Mum! My own Mum was exactly the same actually. I knew if I ever needed to talk to someone regardless of what time at night she would be around for a chat, we were proper night owls!
This week I’ve also applied to join the NCT – National Childbirth Trust – as I want to do some of their local antenatal classes. I’ve heard lots of good things about the classes and apart from helping prepare us both, it will be good to meet some other parents-to-be in the local area.
It would definitely be a bonus to find some other Mums that are feeling as lost as I no doubt will be!
