Help if your relationship breaks down

Babyexpert was invited to take part in a briefing at the Ministry of Justice today. It was about how to make sure people know about Family Mediation.
Basically, if you split from your partner and have children, mediation is a low-cost initial route before you consider getting a divorce or setting up an access arrangement for the children.
It entails sitting down with a professional mediator who talks to you both - together and individually - to try and work out how to manage your split.
The first consultation is free then you are charged for subequent sessions. Sounds like the best first step to go over issues like who looks after the children, how often the other party gets access, what happens about tax credits once you separate etc.
Visit the Direct Gov website and search under 'family mediation' if you want more info.
