Your essential hospital stay checklist
  • Your essential hospital stay checklist

  • Here's what you'll need for the duration of your hospital stay.

  • Several pairs of front-fastening nightclothes - this will make breastfeeding easier
  • Extra underwear or disposable knickers
  • Dressing gown - if you're up and about, or have visitors
  • Extra large sanitary towels
  • Nursing bras - there are some lovely ones available now.
  • Breastpads
  • Towel - your hospital may ask you to bring one
  • Pillow - it's comforting to have something that smells of home
  • Wash bag - don't forget hair bands and a hairbrush
  • Small mirror - so you look your best for visitors
  • Magazines - make sure you have the latest copy of Prima Baby
  • If you have an older child, a small present for them from the new baby is often a good way to ensure the first meeting goes well
  • Eye shade - to block out the lights if trying to sleep
  • An outfit to wear home - choose your favourite maternity outfit as your pre-bump clothes may not fit yet
