Your essential baby checklist
  • Your essential baby checklist

  • Here's what your baby will need after birth.

  • 5 bodysuits - unless you know that you are having a big- or small-for-dates baby, buy newborn-sized outfits
  • Newborn nappies
  • Going-home outfit - although you'll probably get lots of outfits as gifts
  • Cosy blanket - especially if it's cold
  • Car seat for the journey home - ensure that this has been fitted properly and is suitable for a newborn baby. You won't be allowed to go home without one

If you're a natural organiser you'll probably love packing your hospital bag, but don't feel you have to include everything on this list.
