  • Easter means danger for your little one's gnashers, but there's no reason to ban chocolate.

Even if you don't normally let your baby or toddler eat chocolate, Easter is likely to be the exception.

So if you haven't yet started your little one on a regular toothbrushing regime, now is the time to establish good habits.

The British Dental Health Foundation advises that the main cause of tooth decay is not the amount of sugar consumed, but how often it comes into contact with teeth, via sugary foods or drinks.

Regular sweet snacks or fruity drinks are the worst culprits, so dentists recommend that sugary foods should be limited to mealtimes only.

Healthier in-between snacks are cheese, vegetables and fruit - but not dried fruit.

Try to make sure your child's Easter chocolate is eaten as part of a meal, and all in one go - munching it slowly over a long period of time puts his teeth under greater risk of attack.

And remember to adopt the habit of cleaning teeth twice a day.
