Babies love books

Even the tiniest babies enjoy the rhythm of having a book read to them, as well as the colours and textures that the best baby books offer.

Ladybird books is keen that all little ones should have the chance to get their nose into a book, and has set up a scheme called Baby Bookworms. It's a series of interactive workshops held in bookshops for parents and their babies.

They are designed to show how even the smallest of children can enjoy rhythm and rhyme at the same time as exploring shape, sound and texture.

Ladybird's gorgeous range of Baby Touch books, aimed at babies aged 6-18 months, is used in the workshops.

Here's what one mum had to say about Baby Bookworms, 'My daughter and I loved the Baby Bookworm session. I picked up some top tips and it was a great opportunity to meet other mums and babies.

'As per the session leader's recommendation we built Freya a bookshelf at her height, and at 10 months she loves picking out her choice of book to read.'
