  • Why won't he wear his nappy?

  • My 1-year-old son simply won't keep his nappy on. I've tried putting one nappy on, then another on back to front, but nothing works. How can we sort this problem out?

Child psychologist Laverne says: 'Your son may have sensitive skin and his behaviour could be due to this. He may also be uncofortable about the idea of using his nappy as he becomes aware of what it's for. I'd respond by talking about his nappy and its job.

Insist he wears it for a set amount of time, perhaps using a timer, and extend the amount of time he needs to wear it by making sure he's absorbed in what he is doing.

I'd also suggest you see your GP, who can check nothing's irritating his skin.'
