  • Why doesn't my husband hear the baby crying at night?

  • Q My 9-month-old baby still wakes at night, yet it’s always me who tends to him, rather than my husband. He rarely responds promptly and even when he does, eh can’t soothe the baby, so I end up seething and seeing to the baby anyway. Is he being unhelpful or am I just more attuned to our baby?

Therapist Lesley replies: Your husband responds differently to your baby's
night-time cries, so maybe he has his own views on the situation. Ask him how he thinks you should both be reacting, and why the baby responds better to you.

Also, think about your reaction. Could it be that you're annoyed with your baby for crying, and you want your husband to limit your son's demands?

Or maybe you're annoyed with your husband for not reassuring you your baby is fine.

Talk to each other when you're both calm and decide together how to handle night-times.
