  • TV and young children

  • Q: Do you think TV has a negative effect on toddlers and young children?

Child psychologist Laverne says: I believe TV is best for children in small doses. ideally, you should watch with your child, as some very inappropriate material is often available at curiously early times.

Ideally, your child will be developing her language skills and her ability to play creatively rather than passively watching TV, but the reality is that most children do watch it.

These simpe rules should stop her developing unhealthy TV habits:

  • Keep viewing to a minimum.
  • Monitor what your child is watching.
  • Talk to your child about the programme she has watched.
  • Stay in charge of the remote!
