  • My toddler walks on her toes

  • My daughter started walking just after she was 1, but now she's 18 months she has started walking on her toes. Will this damage her feet?

Health visitor Dawn says: Most children 'toe walk' occasionally, especially when first learning to walk. Some children keep doing it, off and on, just because they can.

However, if your daughter is walking on her toes most of the time, or if it seems as though she can't bear her weight on a flat foot, she could have a short or tight Achilles tendon.

When the Achilles tendon is too short or tight, it forces the heel up and the toe down, preventing her from standing flatfooted and limiting her range of motion in the ankle.

A tight Achilles tendon can be a simple physical problem, or it may be due to mild cerebral palsy. In either case, it is important  that you visit your GP.
