  • Heartburn keeps me awake - what can I do?

  • Q:I get heartburn most nights now I'm pregnant. Is there anything I can do to avoid it?

Midwife Nikki Khan says: Try sleeping with an extra pillow in bed, so you top half is slightly propped up, don't eat too close to bedtime and avoid spicy or acidic foods and gassy drinks in the evenings.

If you need a snack near bedtime to quell nausea, try biscuits, toast or a bowl of cereal. Rennies can help - keep some by your bed for those night-time attacks. If it persists or gets really uncomfortable, see your GP.
