  • Can I ask for an induction?

  • I am 32 weeks pregnant and have got a condition called spondylolisthesis, for which steel rods were placed in my back to hold my spine together. I was told my baby is big, which explains why my back is so painful. Can I ask to be induced early?

GP Dr Rob Hicks says: I think it would be a good idea for you to discuss your fears with the obstetrician or the surgeon who did your spinal surgery. I'm sure they'll reassure you that the steel rods are very strong and are unlikely to be affected by your growing baby in the womb.

This reassurance will help you relax, which in turn should ease your back pain.

Discuss the idea of early induction with your obstetrician, who can advise you on the impact of this on both your health and your baby's.
