  • Breastfeeding is taking over my life

  • Q I always intended to breastfeed, but I didn’t envisage it would be such an effort. Feeding my 6-week-old son is virtually a 24/7 job and my husband is getting fed up that I don’t seem to have time for anything else. How much longer is this going to go on?

Therapist Lesley replies: In the early weeks breastfeeding is a round-the-clock job for many mums. But don't panic, as time passes and patterns are established, your baby won't need feeding
so often. In the meantime try not to worry too much about the chores or any other parenting ‘jobs' - this is a unique period when you and your son need to bond. You may feel overwhelmed now, but once
he's weaned you won't have this time back again and may even miss it.
Perhaps your husband feels left out of this close relationship and lumbered with the tasks you don't have time for. Make it clear that he's not a spare part but very much wanted in caring for you while you devote your attentions to your baby.
