  • Am I feeding my baby too much?

  • I give my 10-month-old daughter jars of baby food for both lunch and dinner. My mum says this is too much and that I should just give her a milk-based pudding for dinner. Is she right?

Nutritionist Caroline Bunker replies: Although your mum is trying to help, feeding advice has changed over the years. You are right to avoid giving her only pudding at dinner times, as this can encourage a sweet tooth.

It's fine to use jars for convenience, but try to serve home cooked food whenever possible. Try mashing a serving of whatever your cooking for the rest of the family, but avoid adding salt to her portion. Follow with a dessert such as yoghurt or fruit.

The amount of food babies eat is extremely variable, so be guided by her appetite. Check out our feeding section in our baby channel as it has some great recipe ideas for you to try.
